Resolution looks much lower than...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:36 pm

I am pretty upset at how low res this came looks so far compared to the Xbox 360, and Fallout 3 there. I am really wondering if I have grabbed the wrong platform to play here or what. Any answers please, would be helpful. I am about to sell my Xbox just for their collusion with Bethesda, etc, if this looks great on the Xbox with 1080p resolutions. I just can't take the bs between these companies as they fight for exclusivity and better resolutions, etc. like Red Dead. I am beginning to just hate games and the hoops I have run through to find the right platform offering.

If anything the PS3 version looks much clearer, just take the first screenshot as an example.

And OP, there is no way to directly compare the two versions without having them side by side in the same room and the same point (as what the comparison shots have done) and so what if it runs at 720p on PS3 and upscaled (note - UPSCALED) 1080p on 360 (and that hasn't even been confirmed), we get better performance as a result.

Ah, THAT's the kind of answer I want. Now I see the advantage of upscaling, and if the better framerates are true, then that is an acceptable tradeoff. I really didnt see any huge hits in framerates in Fallout 3 on Xbox 360, and it did look a bit better due to upsampling, etc. This is a different game, and it just appears to be less resolved than my previous experience. I am still not digging the change but at least there are some answers out there. If the 360 version was 1080p, I would absolutely snap and sell the dang Xbox out of principal. I am already underwhelmed with Halo Reach, Gears, Fable, etc, and find no real reason to play games on the Xbox 360, especially tempering the fact of the expensive (for what you get) Live sub is about to renew in less than a month. Black Ops will have less kids and haters on it on PS3, and this is where I would like to stay.

Sony needs to develop some game upsampling to go along with the DVD upsampling features. I am still tired of this intra-company wrangling jazz, where one system is featured preference over another- MW2, here, etc., (or equally bs like Gamestop vs. Best Buy with preorder exclusives... "power to the corporate bottom line") and I find it utterly disrespectful to gamers and their pocketbook or patience. Bleh to all of involved companies, and given how many times I've rebought Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, etc. (because of bugs or locked out DLC content), I am very disgusted in general when there are intra-console differences. These decisions serve their companies best, not gamers.

Those were the differences I remember. Thanks again! The PS3 does look a bit washed out, but then again, the difference isnt huge. The framerates svck on PS3 anyways.

Those comparison shots never look as good as PS3 looks on my TV. I don't think they use HDMI with optimal settings when taking those shots.. I've seen some where they were obviously using A/V cables for the PS3 shot. New Vegas looks and runs very good for me.

Try checking you're 720 res box. If that fails try calling Sony, they had me do this re boot thing. really made things better
