Wonder if they can even fix the freezing...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:54 pm

It started off OK. I had one freeze in maybe 10 hours. I was like, all right, whatever. This is fine. Totally fine. I can deal with it. Don't see why everyone over at GameFAQs is crying over something so minor... and then the freezing just started to become more and more frequent to the point where I can hardly play half an hour without it totally freezing. I have no idea what the problem is. A lot of people are having this problem. I realize you guys are working on a patch and I am really happy about that but my fears arise from the PS3 version of Fallout 3: GOTY where the game had such constant freezing it *is* unplayable. That was never patched and I always wondered why and now, as I sit here, it dawned upon me that maybe it's because they just can't fix it.

I have no idea how a patch would resolve the freezing. I have no idea how coding and the like works but I guess I'm just severely disapointed. I love New Vegas. It's a wonderful game. It's just nearing the point of being completely unplayable to me, now.

I know, I know. "Get it on the PC!" and the like. Well, I chose to purchase it on the PS3 because that was my system of choice and I never imagined it would have the same issues the Fallout 3: GOTY had.

I'm just wondering if a lot of us unlucky PS3 owners are just screwed with this game (I realize some people have zero issues with freezing but a lot of others do) or if the freezing could be fixed via a patch.

I wonder if your console is overheating.

I hope that's the case. I really do but I keep my PS3 dusted and in an open area. It's running really cool right now but, in all seriousness, after five minutes of playing - just now - it froze. No scratches on the disc, either.

The PS3 will auto switch off with beeps if it's overheating. So rule that out. Sony added that feature so if a console did get too hot that it wouldn't get permanent damage.

It's not overheating, how could it be overheating if it crashes after only 5 minutes of gameplay? This has happened to me numerous times with FO3 GOTY until I stopped playing it..

Now the exact same thing is happening with FONV, except this one has even more bugs in it, but it acts so similar to FO3 that I am starting to believe it's the game engine and
will never be fixed... think about it, FO3 GOTY has been out for how long?? was it ever fixed??? nope..

and it's not my PS3 because I have other new games I play for 10 to 12 hours at a time with no crashes or even a stutter... what is wrong with this picture...

Me too. Me too. Anyway I'm not giving up hope. My save file has grown to 4.5MB. I think that has a lot to do with it. SIIIIGH.

with fallout 3, i noticed as my save file grew( i think it reached 8 megs eventually) that the game would lag alot more and thats when crashes started to occur. With NV i crashed within the first 2 hours. And thats really my problem. If a man is stuck in the ground, I could live with that. If the game runs slightly choppy , I can live with that also......but a game to crash to so often thats a different story. I am really confused to how they did not pick up any of these bugs at all during testing. Ah well, its like a drug, bad effects but you still go back for more. Damn you bethseda.

They can acknowledge it and explain why they don't fix it. Or do they flat out deny the problem? Their silence is frustrating too.

Same here, it freezes long before the console gets hot. Also, I have no problem with freezing with any other game, same goes for many others who have problem with FO3 (and NV).

I've turned off all forms of autosaving and disconnected from the internet and it seems to be letting me play for longer before it freezes.

yes, I've tried all of that and it helps a little, but when your save file gets big enough even that won't stop the crashing...

it's sad because I freakin love both FO3 and FONV but they just won't stop crashing my PS3 and I finally just gave up...

All I originally wanted to do was let the fallout devs know what some of us are experiencing with the new release of FONV on PS3 in case they might be interested to hear...

not speaking your mind about things is to be a monkey...

I've been playing DA:O as well as other current titles and have played them for 15 to 16 straight hours without a crash so I don't believe any of the bs floating around that it's my PS3 or my attitude...

that's nonsense... I have a lot of patience when it comes to little glitches and hiccups in games, especially when they are as big as the ones we're seeing now...

but a game that crashes so much that you can't finish it, or has major quest breaking bugs, and eventually crashes every single time you load your save is not my idea of a good gaming experience, not for 60+ bucks worth it isn't...

There has to be resource issues going on with fallout games and PS3 because FO3 GOTY I got to work well on my PC and still play it a lot, but the same game just won't stop crashing on my PS3 and now FONV is doing the same thing...

the way I am with games - if I can't play for at least 5 to 6 hours at a time then it's fubar... especially when you're talking about games of this length and depth...
the story is deep and engrossing and only having 2 hours to invest and then being forced to shut the system down otherwise it crashes again, or if you're unlucky it crashes the first hour, is quite simply a waste of my time...

say what you will, but I've already tried everything after searching the net for many days and looking for solutions and trying everything I could find and nothing has changed the crashing situation...

I can't finish either FO3 or FONV on PS3 and that makes me feel like I've had a coitus interruptus, you know, it leaves you feeling like you pulled out before you were finished... lol
not a pleasant experience.. it leaves you feeling, well... undone... lol

I suppose when I get sick of messing around with trying to get it to work I'll just take it back and get as much of a refund as I can, which I'm sure won't be even half what I paid for it...

I AM encouraged however by the fact that patches are coming for PS3, I hope that continues and they are able to beat the crashing issues as I certainly would love to finish this game and start another character and play it all over again...
man that would be heaven... :fallout:

My game did load the strip a couple of times but now it's impossible to go there this makes me so angry because i paid 90 euro's for the CE edition and now I can't play the game because bethesda wants to use a old and buggy engine makes you wonder who is more evil Bobby Kotick or the folks over at Bethesda...

This is truly sad. So many responses to this problems yet no replies from the devs on if a fix is on the way.
And this has been going on since day one....I think it will not get fixed anytime soon..But I'm still hoping...

I have no idea if a developer has even looked at this topic. If they have I have no idea what they're thoughts would be. I'm sure (I hope) they're working on a patch. I hope they patch Fallout 3 GOTY while they're at it (I know, I know when pigs fly) but even still, it's really just another topic on the forum complaining about something. They get it. We're all angry. *shrug*

My save is nearing 7MB. Oh god.... I'm afraid my quick fix wont work for long anymore. Here's to them releasing a (better?) patch soon. Or releasing one at all in the US region. >_>

I agree my FONV runs for about 3hrs max and then just totally lags like hell then freezes. Yet i could play BFBC2, Resident Evil5, MAG, and countless other games without the littlest amount of lag (not counting online lag problems) and yet i hop on FONV and my PS3 is like "WTF rly? you want me to run this? Good luck with that!"

Since their partner that they so love to jump into bed with is getting some of the problems they'll attempt to fix what is wrong with it this time around. The humorous thing is that after just finishing FO3 again to get my FO hype up, non-DLC included, I never crashed at all. It seems as if it is the same story again, give it a year and we'll be down to just a crash an hour. A figure that pathetically everyone here actually would be happy with. What does that tell you of the quality of the game.

Ive got about 13 hours gameplay on it now and after about 30 seconds of loading my save file up it just freezes. Ive waited for at least an hour and it has still not unfreezed. Its now got to the point where the game is unplayable. I love fallout and even though fallout 3 was extremely buggy I carried on to the point of getting a platinum, but with FNV if theres no patch in a few days ill have lost all faith in the developers. If anyones actually reading this then dont you think its a bad idea making your game unplayable when your going to release dlc in the futre for that unplayable game?!
