My Mod causing a CTD

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:15 pm

So i released a mod called http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35659. Its just a house mod but so far 2 people have come up saying it causes a CTD.

This thread it half to get a bigger test sample and half to help me fix it. 2 people is only 2 people and around 70 had downloaded it before i pulled it and they were the only 2 to comment with issues, but that could be they were the only ones to take time to bother to do so

the mod file:

http://www.silentmoose.com/otherstuff/williamsestate.zip

I only used native assets, i didn't write/change any scripts and was careful not to delete/change things that are essential to quests/missions/the games operation. so if there is a consistent CTD problem with this i am at a complete loss as to what could be causing it. I opened the mod and looked in the geck but i dont know where to begin, its just a house mod

any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not able to load it up with FNVEdit - it's trying to load ClassicPack.esm which I don't have. That will cause a CTD - if a master is missing.

crap i must have left that selected. is there a way to unmaster it? it doesn't use anything from the classic pack so would there be a way to make it so the classic pack isn't a master?

FNVedit is the one-word answer for that one.

Make sure it has finished loading..."background loader:finished"
Dbl click on your file in the left column and click on the view tab in the bottom right corner
Click on the "FileHeader" under your .esp name
On the right hand side should be a Masterfiles section
Right click on the master file you want to get rid of and you should be able to delete it there.......
That should get rid of the unwanted master file.

Put that classicpack .esm or wahtever back into the directory, and try again.

im being all kinds of thick today. i forgot to mention that a dialog box pops up when i try to load the files, says something about unable to edit when it comes to that load error, cause that esm is in the Data directory.

You will have to change the date modified for either FONV.esm or ClassicPack.esm in order to change there load order in the game or FONVEdit, I had this problem since the GECK automatically picks the classicPack.esm as a master, which I didn't notice  . I used this to change the file date modified http://download.cnet.com/FileDate-Changer/3000-2248_4-10549569.html it was easy to use.

good luck

wait a minute, no it doesn't, i looks like it does but freezes on Building FormID Index :( i cant win, my mod hates me

EDIT: actually its wierd. FNVEdit only freezes when i try to load the williams estate file that has all the items in it. if i select the williamsestate_noitems.esp (no ammo, food, guns, etc in the house) instead it loads just fine

Wow i feel stupid. after alot of testing (ive got 5 or 6 renamed versions of my mod file floating on my desktop and in my data folder) i found the culprit

the boxes of 10mm ammo i used on a shelf. the only thing i can think is that maybe i used the ammo you are given at the start of the game when the classic pack is activated, which was not specially labeled or had any distinguishing marks from the regular 10mm ammo or something. then FNVEdit thing worked like a charm

thanks for all the help guys. I should have known something from gamestop would come back to bite me
