Eyes In Dialog

Post » Sat Feb 12, 2011 3:05 pm

So if you recall, In Fallout 3, the NPC's eyes didn't move during dialog. ever.
My dad quoted that as one of the things that completely turned him off of the game, and I was wondering:

A) Was this a major turnoff for anyone else? or is my dad just crazier than we already believe?

and

B ) is this changed for New Vegas? I know they are recycling the Fallout 3 engine, but did they bother to change that at all?

I'd rather not get turned on by characters eyes in a game.

But no it didn't bother me.

Ummm... aren't they supposed to be looking at you in the eyes? Or do you mean blinking? If so, it's never bothered me.

have you EVER had a conversation with someone, during which both people maintained eye contact the entire time?

In fact yes, although 10 minutes later the doctor walked in and made him a resident of the local asylum...

The static animations never bothered me so much, of course I noticed, but I easily manage to take a step back and focus on what is there, and not on what is missing.

NOTE: it did not bug me, just my dad, who pays attention to that kinda stuff.

but i mean, what do you do while in a conversation? you glance around, like at stuff behind whoever you are talking to.

Your right male NPCs should be staring at my female characters chest the entire time.

But on a more serious note no it never bothered me. To be honest i don't see where else they would be looking. I would however like more animated speech like Vampire Bloodlines had. It was small they moved their hands, head ect but it gave them a very realistic feeling. I believe it was tied to the actual dialog too so the expression and their actions depended on what you were speaking about. Maybe we'll see this kind of improvement for the next TES/Fallout game i'm sure the main hold up is that they're probably updating the game engine.

I'll make sure to look away if I ever engage in a conversation with your father. I wouldn't wish to send him into a disgusted rage.
