I am having the exact same issue. When Steam launched the game, it asked for resolution/refresh settings, and when I clicked launch it just opened up the engine folder. I tried several resolutions and made sure the refresh rate matches my monitor settings. After several launch attempts, still no luck.I went on http://www.systemrequirementslab.com and it says I pass both the minimum and recommended specs required for this game.

I just fixed it. Just exit Steam and relaunch it. Problem solved.

I'm running on Windows 7 x64, and the display for the display settings comes up, but then it doesn't do anything at all after I tell it to run.I tried exiting out of Steam and restarting Steam, as well as the system itself, and the game will still not run.

The game is not compatible with Vista - there's a way to get around it, but I havent tried it myself, though:1. Set the game up to run as administrator.2. Set the compatibility to Windows XP (Service Pack 2).3. Set the compatibility to Widows 2000.

yeah we can't have predicted as developers that future versions of windows is going to be incompatible with our software, none of us have the ability to adapt it now either, it is like putting a PS2 disc in a PS3 or a PSP even, is it works at all it is random what problems to expect. I myself have played the game recently on vista and yes it is seriously more buggy on that platform, hopefully Buchreits advice will sort that out, or maybe someone will write some emulation software to simulate the functions of graphics cards and system spec circa the release of DCOTE.

Here, try this fix...it should work with any version of Windows...Here's what to do:FIRSTLY: Note that this is going to require you to change your system registry. This is not dangerous if you know what you are doing. It is, however, EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. BE VERY CAREFUL.Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. If at any time UAC pops up, press ok.Open RegEdit (Start->Run then type regedit and hit ok)(or C:\Windows\regedit.exe).Navigate to:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bethesda Softworks\Call Of Cthulhu DCoTE\SettingsIn here, you will see several keys. One of them might be:ExecutableIf you see it, it will probably not have a value. You might also not see it at all. THIS IS THE PROBLEM!IF YOU HAVE THE KEY, BUT NO VALUE, skip the key creation step below.IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE KEY AT ALL:Make sure you have the Settings folder selected in the left column, and go to Edit->New->String Value.Name it ExecutableNow, double-click on the key you just created, and a window should pop up to allow you to enter a value.Enter CoCMainWin32.exeClick ok.

quote]ORRR!!!!!!You can just right click the steam icon and set compatibility to Windows XP Service PAck 2....Worked for me![/quote]several peeps have already tried this and it didn't work for them...the fix that I listed will work for everyone if they've tried all other options and it still doesn't work.

The regedit fix that I applied earlier works perfectly...I've been playign the game since for several days with no errors. Have had several peeps and friends use the same fix and it works for them as well.
