Restart from Scratch after 40 hrs...

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever experienced. After nearly 40 hours of playing and experiencing uncounted crashes, I have now come to a point where not a single one of my savegames (about 50) successfully loads, the game immediately crashes.

I tried everything: disabling any mods, enabling them one by one, also changing the load order. Tried out different versions of d3d9.dll or none at all, changed graphic settings, tried windowed mode. reinstalled graphic driver, tried older graphic driver (186.18 nvidia). I set ffdshow to ignore Fallout (in fact I already had that set, I disabled an enabled).I had windows (w7 64bit Ultimate) check for errors on the hard drives, rebooted multiple times. Nothing helps.

The save games go back to nearly the start of my game. And I was playing with the second patch from the start. I also tried Defragmenting the Steam cache files and checking the integrity of the files with the built-in steam function. I enabled and disabled the steam cloud stuff and also the in-game interface.

This is not a location bug. It doesn't matter which of my savegames I try. They all let FNV crash and they are from all over the game, locations or accomplished Quests.

Thanks Obsidian for achivieving the total removal of any fun playing this game.

Have the exact same problem. After 41 hours of playing i can no longer load any saves without it crashing and giving the message "FalloutNV has stopped working". It's unbelievably frustrating as i have spent £30 on a game that i can no longer play...

THANK GOD !!!

I found the reason why the savegames could no longer be loaded.

Since I was testing out various .ini settings to improve the graphic and also to improve the performance, and I also tried various versions of the d3d9.dll, I did some changes to the "fallout_default.ini" in the game folder. So each time I changed d3d.dll I would not have to re-edit my fallout.ini in the "My Games\FalloutNV" folder. One of the parameters was "uGridsToLoad" which I increased.

As it seems now, the first time I could'nt load my savegame was some other problem. But after the game crashed, I let STEAM verify "the integrity of the game cache". And Steam found TWO FILES which were "corrupt or missing" and re-downloaded those.

After that check, I also disabled my d3d9.dll, which did set the Fallout Launcher to retest my hardware and create new "fallout.ini" and "fallout_prefs.ini" files.

Now when I tried to load a savegame, nothing worked.

THE REASON WAS THAT one of the two files Steam download was my "Fallout_default.ini" ! This of course did also reset "uGridsToLoad" to its default value of 5 . On TweakGuides.com I now read that changes to this value are stored within the savegame...

SO EVERYONE OUT THERE WHO HAD STEAM TEST THE INTEGRITY: Check you .ini files!
