canteens..

Post » Thu Apr 28, 2011 1:50 am

hey guys, i was wondering, i pre-ordered from gamestop and got the classic pack (the one with the V13 canteen) and was wondering....
how will it work?
will you just, pull up the pip-boy and hit x (on ps3) and drink everything in it? or will it pull up some sort of "how much do you want to drink" screen?
and also...how will you fill it up?
help would be appreciated,
F_F_B.

Maybe it can hold up to 5 portions of water = 5 bottles of water.
But when you've used it up it doesn't disappear like the bottles and when you find a water source you can refill it. /speculation.

that would actually make a lot of sense.

I'm going to agree that it's probably some sort of reusable water container. It might simply be the New Vegas equivalent of Purified/Dirty water bottles, but it seems to me considering hardcoe mode that there should be some kind of item that allows you to carry more water at a time with less weight and/or space used up in your inventory.

I got the vibe that there's more than just canteens that are "reusable". I think that gun repair kits were also mentioned.

I have a hard time imagining how the canteen is going to fit more than the equivalent of two water bottle's in it, but maybe we'll just be taking swigs from it instead of water bottle sized chugs.

Thinking about the canteens and the repair kits, maybe they're multi-use consumables? If they were permanent you'd only ever need one, but letting you get a half dozen or so uses out of them gives them actual value. Designers can place them as loot rewards without worrying about potentially giving the player a uselessly redundant item.

Edit: And the game already has condition and decay. Simply tying item use to condition would make this work pretty well.

Just like how you would use an actual canteen, makes sense.

I wonder if you can fill it up at any water source? Like toliets and rivers.

What if you could fill it with blood from things you kill. (Mountain men did this IRL)

Maybe it does work just like flasks in the original Fallout. It stops you from getting dehydrated, so you actually don't have to use it, it just works by being in your pack. Like the food sanitizer in FO3.

That would svck. that 7lb slap chop was cool at first, but I wish they did more with it. I hope you have to fill canteens at locations and I also hope that what you fill it with (radiated or not) also carries over.

Multi-use would be the most logical.

I would be throughly dissappointed if it was passive like the food sanitizer.

If anything it should be on a meter and you have to fill it up before the meter runs out.

If it just sits there then whats the frakking point?
