Tops Presidential Suite Thieves

Post » Tue May 24, 2011 11:17 am

I'm one of those decorator types. I like to put lots of trophies on display.
I dont care for the Lucky 38 suite because it's just a hallway with a bunch of small redundant rooms in a dead building.
Now the Tops Presidential Suite is in a lively building. The suite has large rooms and lots of display areas.
There's just one problem, the two guards (Chairmen) that wander the halls open my suite door, step right into my room (Room 17) like they own the place and take stuff. Weapons, food, drink. Whatever. I placed stuff out just to see if they would. And sure as frak, they did.
There are only two guards. I killed them quietly with the silenced pistol (not in view of each other). Neither got a shot off before they were dead, although of course they were aware they were quickly being killed. I shoved their bodies into the book case as my first two trophies.
When I went downstairs, the suits attacked me, so I had to back up my save.

If these jackasses can walk into my room whenever they like and grab stuff, I cant use the room.
Even if I just used the containers, I saw a Fallout3 NPC take a named weapon right out of a postal dropbox I was using in The Pitt. So allowing them physical access to my primary storage depot is unacceptable.
Now I acquired this room by winning 7500 chips in the casino, so it's all legit.
Is there a solution for this problem, other than killing every guard in casino, which would presumably remove all services in the Tops?
They dont go to sleep, but perhaps they could be one-shotted so they never become aware they're under attack? I dont know if that would help.

OK wow, that just svcks. I'm sure a modder can fix this, but it sounds pretty lame in terms of whatever Obsidian did when designing this area and setting the NPC behavior, so I hope it gets changed officially!

I just tried silently killing the two chairman and fast forwarding 7 days, but the lobby chairman still attacked me. Further, the caps/chips teller has run off, so there's no more using the casino.

If there really is no solution to this problem, I wonder if a patch can be requested? This is for the PS3, but I presume it would afflict all platforms.

And btw, I like being compared to the Gran Torino guy :)

Can you use the console 'kill' command on them? Assuming you're on PC...

I dont think they intended for the player to use the Tops room for long term stay, but it would be nice to have an alternative on the strip. It kind of fits as I see the Tops management using this room for various purposes so they would not want me to stay there.

I kind of like having my own casino.

I just moved into a certain unused suite on the 13th floor that you get all to yourself during a certain main quest.

Lead a breadcrum trail of Awesome guns all the way to a homemade minefield?

Kill them both and hide them under the bed/bathroom?

Use a knockout punch on them and then slit their throats?

Or you could spare the guns and just rig your door with attractive little powder charges. ^.-

I believe if you don't one shot them with a sneak attack they will always alert their faction. Even if kill them in one VATS instance it doesn't matter. It has to be one shot that nobody else sees or hears. I've picked off a lot of gamblers because I wanted their nifty clothes. No rep hits. I blew heads clear off folks while the dealer and the person sitting next to them went about their business like nothing happened. The Chairman are tougher though, they hear shots and almost always instantly locate you and turn hostile. You really have to have one alone to pull it off.

Thanks Bud. The two guys roaming into my room can easily be gotten alone because they walk around two or three rooms independently. I believe, at my level, I do have a gun powerful enough to one-shot them, but it's not silenced. However a silenced, fully repaired sniper rifle would probably do it, as noted just above. But where to get the silencer for it? I'll have to keep my eyes out.

And for a few of the other repliers, the room in the Lucky 38 doesnt interest me because the casino is dead. Unless it gets populated after you kill Mr House, it's not going to be lively enough, or offer services like gambling and shows. I went to a lot of trouble in Fallout3 on my last time through to keep as many NPC's and towns alive as possible to keep the environment lively. I even went through the script where you keep The President alive so I could hear his broadcasting after I'd finished that questline. But unfortunately, he just repeats the same single script over and over.

I've been able to do it with a non-silenced scoped hunting rifle. The key is be far down a hallway, as far as you can away from the guy you're killing, and anyone in his faction for that matter.

And, yes, there is a silencer for the sniper rifle but it doesn't seem to start showing up until lvl 15+ and it is still random like all other mods.
