Addicting? NO

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:20 am

So many things that the developers did wrong that every game needs and usually has. I have not been able to play the game since the first day, and I do not miss it. Usually when a new game comes out, all you want to do is play it. I feel that this game has many ups: SMART, Customization, how the classes work, and Teamwork. But many flaws: NO LOBBIES, Laggy, Really Laggy (deal breaker for any game especially when it is new, get your servers right this game was suppose to come out a year ago thank god it didnt), No Team Deathmatch, When you play multiplayer its always the same game with the same objectives in the same place (normal games it is always different when you play multiplayer, that is the point to have a variety and to play that against different people with your friends, and No Real Ranking System. Other than that it would be great, but I know why it got a 6/10 in most reviews.

Isn't TDM the same thing every time? and while the cut scenes are playing can't you press start or A or something and it brings up a "lobby" screen?

Edit: Oh, and Addicting? YES!

lol i find it very addciting, like i look at the clock and its 11:00, "ill go to bed soon", look back and its 2:00am, "WHAT THE ___________" , A GAME hasnt dont that too me in a long LONG time, especially an online shooter, i can deal with no lobbies, and i dont lag horribles (which is saying something cas i play wirelessly on my laptop), no team deathmach = a good thing, im sick of people not playing an objective, this game wasnt BUILT for team deathmach and i have a feeling if someone (some will) modded it in then it would svck. no real ranking system, im ok with that, i hate playing games "just to rank up", it stops being about the game and just about "getting the next rank" i like to live "Match by match" ,and only think about winning that match. the same objects, really your complaining about that, both call of duty ,halo, and bad company 2 have objective in the same place every game, what are you talking about,

People are really overstating the complexity of this game. It's really straightforward.

I love Brink very much, and I'll be playing this for awhile but I think once I level up all 10 of my characters to 20 I'll end up just... stopping.
The guy brings up a very valid point, it gets a bit bland after awhile. It's not a "new game" every time, I'm not really "playing how I want", I have to do the same Main Objectives every single time, I have to do the same Side Objectives every single time.
Honestly, Invasion on Halo: Reach has more variety than this. Since it's not so scripted, you can do a lot of different things to get the job done. This game is so scripted and so specific that each game just becomes a repeat of the last time I was there. I've played each of the missions so many times now and I know everything about the maps, I know everything that has to be done, and I know where all the side things are.
It really reminds me a lot of how Left 4 Dead kept claiming it was going to be a different game every time you played because the zombies weren't placed in the same places all the time, or the guns would be in different places. No, it was the same friggin' thing every time I played just SLIGHTLY altered.

Again, I'll be playing this for awhile but only because the only fun and new thing I'll be having is bringing up different characters and doing different ability maps.

Add more gametypes (Maybe not Team Deathmatch) or make the maps really have more random things in them, and also add Pre-Game lobbies... seriously... I hate how I join a game and I have to hope to God there's enough room for my friends.

"I feel that this game has many ups: SMART, Customization, how the classes work, and Teamwork."
The whole point to this game.

"But many flaws:...Laggy, Really Laggy"
What platform are you playing on? If P2P, what's your ping? If PC, you should know dedicated servers for new IP take time to stabilize. If not, just thank your stars you're new to online PC gaming. This could be pre2000 when it was a nightmare to set up.

"No Team Deathmatch"
This isn't that type of game. I'm sure SD has enough experience with fps IP that they thought of TDM when it came to mp and made an intentional decision in omitting it.

"When you play multiplayer its always the same game with the same objectives in the same place (normal games it is always different when you play multiplayer, that is the point to have a variety and to play that against different people with your friends, and No Real Ranking System."
No TDM...^this...???...COD fanatic...???...see where I'm going with this?

"Other than that it would be great, but I know why it got a 6/10 in most reviews."
One review gave it a 6.

See, that's funny cause I thought that the objective of TDM was always the same the flag in CTF was always in the same place, the bomb in S&D was always inthe same place. Etc. Etc

@ Ranger I was going to kudos you on insight, but then it dawned on me how obvious this should be to anyone who's played a mp match more than a handful of times...ah screw it...kudos.

I do not believe this means you can necessarily accomplish what you KNOW. Heck, I can read the strategy guide and learn ALL the MAPS and EVERYTHING I have to do. I mean, you can do the same with every game and ESPECIALLY Call of Duty. I mean, what variety do they have that isnt intrinsic to this game. I love that you like it, but I don't see the same things that you see in regards to the script. The objectives are scripted, true, but how you accomplish them is up to you, your team and the enemy faction.

God knows why TDM seems so popular, just a highly individualistic game mode with the need for the least communication. For a game thats trying to be very team-based its simple to understand why it isnt there so I dont understand why people seem to be constantly complaining about that decision.

Yeah and it's the same thing over and over. There really isn't much option to doing them differently in a LOT of cases. Some of them do have some variety in them but most of them it's so... again, scripted that it just pushes you towards doing the same thing over and over.
There is variety but there's very little and it's no where near what they said it would be like.

Isn't TDM the same thing every time?

No, at least compared to the objective we have because when and where combat takes place is entirely dependent on circumstance. Player A is moving around a given point of the map, player B happens to go that way, and they fight using what they have there available. But with objective, you have a much more regimented pattern of combat because player A (with very few exceptions) is going to be at the objective, and B's going to come in to try to take it. Both are virtually known quantities, making it "the same thing every time."

I have to agree on some terms... the game did not meet my expectations, but that's my own fault for setting them ridiculously high. I agree that when I buy a new game I usually want to do nothing but play it 24/7. That is not the case with Brink. I've hardly played it at all. I don't think I've given it a fair chance yet though... I'll keep playing and see what happens. Probably my biggest complaint is the horribly bad AI. They promised super smart bots that you couldn't differentiate between human and bot. The enemy team always seems to be great, but my team just flat out svcks. They rarely complete the main objective, and what makes me most angry is during the transport objective when some idiot picks up the security codes or whatever , then just stands there waiting for them to kill him. I really hope they can fix this and some of the other issues with Brink.

You could also say in TDM its just me running around with a good indication where the enemy would come from if I knew the maps (as is the case with most other shooters), the same also goes for a player on the enemy team, an encounter in the end would just be the result of constantly seeking eachother. TDM is basically the same thing everytime as are all gamemodes but theres nothing wrong with that. What arent known quantitys are the players and how they would think and play which is what doesnt make gamemodes feel like its the same thing over and over because its always a different story in how its played.

So, et me tell you about this game ive been playing lately. its called Brink, and it's NOT meant to be like another wannabe CoD game...

your first mistake was thinking this game was a wannabe CoD.

your 2nd mistake was wanting to play the game like a CoD game, and, likely, trying to OneManArmyRaWR the game.

your 3rd mistake, there IS a ranking system. but its not like CoD's.

go cry in a closet with your CoD box. this ain't CoD. THIS! IS! BRINK! *BAM!*

I do not like call of duty so I think some people did not understand me. I think this game is very fun, I was just wondering what a TDM would be like. Also, I am just saying it is not as addicting because I lag so much and I have an Xbox and never have problem with lag because my connection is great and it is really hard to get friends in the same game because of no lobby. I just cannot get hooked to a game that I cant even play because of the lag. I heard that they are coming up with a really good patch to come out today or very soon and I am very excited for that. Also, I do not want a COD game that is why I bought Brink in the first place.
