Your most challenging quest (up to now)

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 10:28 pm

What has been your most challenging quest to complete, and why, up to this point in the game?

Mine is completing the Return to Sender quest.
In that quest you have to visit all of the Ranger Outposts in the map.

Finding how to get to Outpost Foxtrot (the 6th and last you have to visit) was a nightmare. I gained 2 full levels due to all the fighting and exploring I did to find it!
It took me about 3 real-time hours and about 4 reloads (due to getting killed by insects!) to get there.
In the process I discovered a vault, a drug dealing lab, 2 factions, a bootlegging beer factory, and not enough goodies!
Whoever designed this section of the map thought it would be funny to make you go around in circles forever.
To that person: "You are not funny."

However, the end reward was worth it.
Depending on your choices, you can end up with the revolver the Fallout: New Vegas cover art has, and it's worth every step of the way (if you use revolvers, like I do).

How about you?

So far? Well, the leg of the main quest that sends you into the strip.
Because when I got to Freeside I took a MAJOR detour (in the form of dozens of side quests). :)

So far it's probably a toss-up between "That Lucky Old Sun" and "Volare!". The second one isn't really difficult because of the quest itself, though... I just happened to run into a small army of Deathclaws on the way to where I'm supposed to go, and I'm too low level (and don't have a good enough weapon) to get past them yet. That put the fear of God in me, let me tell you. :P

As for "That Lucky Old Sun,"
Spoiler
again, I'm just not really able to kill the robots in the HELIOS One facility right now. Even the Robobrains take too long to kill with the weapons I have. I'm finally strong enough to use a Hunting Rifle, though, so maybe I'll try it again.

Yeah, I second "Volare!" That quest was a pain all around. I tried dodging the artillery through the buildings and had no luck, then I tried going through the train tunnel only to use most of my stimpaks because of those Deathclaws. Ugh.

"Hard Luck Blues" the Vault 34 quest. I had to go back 4 times to complete it. Yes, it was worth it but exhausting! It was worth it at the lower level I was because it changed my game to a better level and I didn't change my settings from Normal mode to Easy. It gave me a step up.

I would say Silver Springs Mine. It has a cache of C4 which is just too good to pass up but man you better be ready to fight for it.

I to the vault 34 armory at lvl8 on very-hard by giving Veronica some power armor and a ballistic fist I was lucky enough to buy from the brotherhood. Still that place was tough to beat and I ended up having over 800 rads when I finally made it out and went to see the doc. Its definitely the hardest dungeon I've seen yet.

Anything to do with Vault 34. My version seems to have hit registering issues, so when I get charged my shotty only does a tenth of the damage it should. It also doesen't help that my char is a Scout type, so close quarters is unfun. And whose idea was it to make the ENTIRE place irradiated? I mean come on. *grumble*

Also, pre-AMR, the Sloan quest is like pushing a semi truck uphill by yourself.

Thank you, Legacy. On Return To Sender, I was convinced it was a game glitch and there was no access further up because I went around and around that mountain. I'll be trying again now that I know it's possible...and I've had a nice break on that quest so it won't DRIVE ME CRAZY AGAIN! :D

You're right....it wasn't funny at all.

If you try to enter from the East, you won't find the "secret" passage that gets you there. I hope you are not enemies with the Kahans, because the only way in is smack in the center of their hideout/territory. To get there go the to Kahan's base and standing in the circular pen in the center of the valley, look WEST. You will see a path that goes up the mountain, apparently to nowhere. Take up that path and follow it to the end. I leave the rest of the surprises up to you. Of the things I mentioned, though, none are up there. All the things I mentioned were found while trying to find that passage.

The "Quarry" was by far the worst. Took forever to kill all those Deathclaws.

I missed your spoiler but I did finally get there. I had to leave Boone and ED-E away from the camp though so I had to go through that whole canyon alone. It was a real test and when it was done my Aid was so depleted that I had to go hunting for supplies and ingredients. I'd say it was a very challenging quest and I was glad when it was over. I didn't find one thing you mentioned though. Thank you again.

The Revolver?
You have to take the same quest to the next level.
It doesn't end when you find Foxtrot.
Spoiler

Now you have to go back to the original person who set you on the quest and resolve her new problem.
Depending on how you do that, at the end, look in the floor next to the chair...
When you get there you will know what I mean.
The revolver does an amazing amount of damage, but finding ammo for it is a nightmare.
Then again, I've only done like 5 quests of the main story, so I wouldn't know...

I haven't gone back to her yet because I had to resupply...I will though. It wasn't the revolver; see your PMs.

The most difficult quest for me has to be the radioactive vault one.
