Pickup food and water you find, all of it.

Dirty water is still water, just means you get some rads as an added bonus :bonk:

While playing hardcoe,do NOT mess with the game clock...that leads to catastrophic failures.

Your just forced to...return to civilization more.
Several bases of operation have free, clean water.
Food...well theres the survival skill and all that meat you left on the corpses....

This, make regular trips to towns with free preferabley not irradiated water, and just keep checking.
Survival is good, it turns a crappy bit of meat into steak that gives a better bonus. I have mine at 50.

I did however turn down the difficulty because for me stims were pretty much useless when I needed them due to the healing delay, I also havent picked up followers because they die in HC... But so far I enjoy it, it mauy be easier because I have the canteen pre order however.

Does cannibalizing corpses count towards food?

I am just about to start my second playthrough and I sure hope it does!

Cannibal (req LVL4)
Ghastly Scavenger (req LVL12, Cannibal)

I'll be posting my build soon to ask for advice -- please do browse and comment!

I've completed the game on hardcoe mode. And honestly I did not find it tough at all. I played a stealthy type character and used Boone the entire game. He really fit with my play style.
I advise using sinks and lakes for water as often as you can, and a few points in survival wouldn't hurt.

Get your survival to about 25 or 30 so you can make your own steaks. Also, whenever you leave civilization, always look for a bathroom, a lake or a tap so you can drink out of it.

hardcoe mode isn't actually that much harder, it just means you have to go back to base camp more often to pick up extra food and water and drop of spare ammos since those things add up really quickly and weight a ton.

If you want a real hardcoe challenge, i suggest trying the Hardercore mod from Nexus. Or Arwens hardcoe pack.
They both change the game drastically.

Lizard, Mole Rat, Bahmin, Mantis, can all be readily made into food. You find them a plenty. If find that I usually have too much food on me. Plus you can fast travel to the Goodspring Well Source, drink to your heart's content, walk up the slope, kill some lizards, go back and cook them, and whola - hunger sated as well.

To be honest I don't think the hardcoe mode is that hard. I'm just playing it on normal. I just pickup food and make lotsa gecko steaks and be sure and pickup any dirty water i see so i can use that recipe to make it clean again. The water is the most annoying part cause it seems to come up the most, but it never really frustrated me or anything.
