Official fix for facial lags

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 3:54 pm

Guys i have this game and it runs on 60 fps, but when someone opens mouth (even person-generator at the beginning) game lags horrible. I'm not interested in some hand-made fixes, i need official solution. So i'm asking you, does developers work on patch? I'll wait for it then and after releasing i'll play the game.

There's no guarantee that a fix for the facial lag is in, but they were actively working on performance fixes, so good chance it might have it.

Can anyone explain me why we have such lag? Why fallout 3 was ok and vegas lags on facials? Do all people have it or only some of us?

For all I know it's an update of the facial software that adds emotion features.

You could try to see if the problem goes away when you open the console (typically by pressing ~) and entering temo followed by enter. That should toggle facial emotions on/off.

Tried temo but no luck. Its not about emotions, its about mouth movement. Generally i have 40 fps and when he is talking its bout 9. What a fail?

Most Nvidia users have this issue with Vista and Windows 7 and more modern cards. Bethesda is rolling out a PC-specific fix 'early this week' which could still mean today and it lists nvidia fixes so I'm hoping that is what it is

The 100% working alternative is to download the d3d9.dll from FONV Nexus (the first one, not the second one the 'ati' one) and place it in the game's folder that has the exe file. It will force the game to think you have an older card and you can manually max the details, it will run at 60fps now

There seems to be an issue with one of the engine's components - either FaceGen or FaceFX and new graphic cards. It will be fixed

The patch that just hit (15mb, might need to restart Steam to get it to download) appears to have a fix for this. I just loaded up a few saves I've held onto specifically to test this issue
Spoiler
(for example, the fight in Goodsprings w/ the Powder Gangers)

And it certainly seems to be massively improved from stock performance. I'll have to test the actual framerate with the DLL fix vs. the new official patch, but it was averaging about 45-50FPS during that fight with Ultra High settings with this latest patch and the DLL fix removed.
