Gauss Rifle Fix

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:26 pm

Can someone please fix the Gauss Rifle to make it the right damage? It's doing the minimum amount of damage it should be doing, both in and out of VATS.

Anyone have a fix for this? I know this was a factor in Fallout 3 as well.

I thought Gauss damage was tied to energy weapons skill. Have you tried boosting that stat?

The gauss rifle, as far as i know, only svcks in vats. There seems to be some problem with the vats damage and especially headshots in vats.
But for my part i use the rifle exlusively out of vats as a sniper rifle, and dont have any problems with the damage ... it can one-shot deathclaws.

All rifle type (gauss included) weapons I have tested seem to do really pathetic damage if you use them from close range. Dunno why as it is against laws of the physics.

The Gauss Rfile does NOT fire correctly in VATS as it deals only 70 damage maximum with 100 energy weapons skill (tested on Deathclaw with YCS/186).

How do you tell how much damage per shot you did on enemies?

Play on Very Hard and enter the location called 'Quarry', where you'll find several deathclaws. Use Vats and aim ANYWHERE on a Deathclaw's body (most noticeable, the head), and you'll notice that the maximum damage dealt is 70. This basically renders the Gauss Rifle and its unique variant practically useless against higher-level creatures in VATS.

This is probably off topic at least partly, but why do you use VATS with any sniper rifle? I never use it and I can easily snipe head shots even when VATS would give me 0% change to hit.

if youre sniping, typically youre hidden (or should be!), and get a sneak attack bonus. VATS is worthless with sniping weapons, even normal enemies. I have tried the sniper rifle (.308 AP rounds), Anti-Material Rifle (.50 MG AP rounds), and Gauss Rifle, all are very good against deathclaws at sniping distance. if you let a deathclaw close enough to hit you, you are doing it wrong :)

Hell ya. Gauss Rifle + Sneak Attack + Better Criticals = Win

The Gauss Rifle is still bugged as it was in Fallout 3 in VATS and should be fixed. But that still didn't hinder my enjoyment of sniping with it. :D

Another fun with Deathclaws is explosives. If you can't get them down with some sniping, set up some C4 or plasma mines at a choke point, get them to run at you, hopefully as a group, and booooom.

There is a fix for the Gauss gun on the New Vegas Nexus. Been there for a while now. Surprised no one has mentioned this by now...

What suprise me the most is we're talking about bugs present in Fallout 3. This surprise me.

Yes, this is off-topic. I use VATS. Big deal, I'd like it to work.

You do know Very Hard halves the final damage taken by NPCs right? If you're actually dealing 70 damage a shot on Very Hard, you'd be hitting for 140 on normal. That said, apparently the explosion grpahic ruins it's damage in VATS, but it should work properly in real time.

Like I said, I do know it works perfectly fine in real time. However, that being said, I'd like for it to work in VATS as well.

Is that so hard to express, or is everyone going to keep floundering about how using VATS is bad?

If I say it frankly I think that it is not gauss which is bugged, but VATS as a whole. I have seen too many cases where mob is right next to me and still VATS gives me 0% chance to hit even though there are no obstacles blocking visibility. Also it seems to cut effective distance of all rifle type weapons I have tested to like half of what I can do without it. If devs would fix those, it would be very nice tool.
