update broke my game to pieces

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 7:05 am

I can't load the game anymore. No, its not the archiveinvalidation bug. I tried that. That got me into the main menu of the game. But now I can't actually LOAD any game, or even start a new one. Doesn't matter if I have mods enabled or not.

Next time, ask us if we want to update our game or not. I have no idea where to even begin debugging this. There goes the two hours of free time I had tonight. Thanks Bethesda.

You have posted the above in a User to User PC Tech discussion forum. There does not appear to be any question there that another gamer might answer, nor are there the normal diagnostic data items included. Under those circumstances, IMO, you are off topic here and should carry your rant off to somewhere else. FYI, I am not a Bethesda moderator. I am a citizen with a preference for seeing things done properly.

Remove mods completely. Re-validate install. Take 2 shots of whiskey, repost in the morning.

Seriously? You call that a rant? Exactly what purpose did your post serve other than to state the obvious(regarding minimal technical information provided) with an elitist self serving attitude? You certainly did not even attempt a helpful response, perhaps it is you who should take your attitude "somewhere else." Just my opinion, just as it is your opinion that it is not a question another gamer would be able to answer. Perhaps the "proper" thing to do would have been to ask for more information? It's not as if every problem with the game engine has a magical error message to help you troubleshoot it either.

@To the Original Poster: I see you registered to just to post this, sorry to see you got such a "warm" reception. My first guess would have been the archiveinvalidation related crash. Just to be sure, what method did you use for invalidation? manual edits or an automated method? There could be something left over. Also, when you mention having the mods enabled or not, keep in mind some mods are partly active even with ESPs disabled, you might want to try moving all the mod files in your Data directory(meshes, textures etc) to a temp dir. As a last resort, do a clean reinstall of the game(making sure to backup your saves) with just the patch installed and see if the problem persists.

Good luck.
