Just bought it and now I need to download 7 gigs?

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 4:54 am

I installed the game and when finished Steam started downloading a 7 gigabyte update.

Is that really neccesary or am I doing something wrong?

I want to play the game now, and not having to wait 6-8 hours after I bought it.

Thanks

You sure you downloaded the game before and it just didn't prepare your files? You ever see that vid of the Mac guy who just got steam?

Did the game actually install? From the CD, it will copy the assets over and this process takes a little while... Maybe 20 mins+

I bought the cd in a store, went home, clicked install game, (already had steam account), steam started the 7 gig fallout update. Steam now says "ready to play in approximately: 14 hours 27 min..."

I'm gonna try a re-install

Just tried to re-install the game.

It stopped, came up with something like "1 file was missing and will be re-acquired" and went back to downloading

Wow that is crazy I would be pretty mad especially if I had a super slow connection. Good luck on the reinstall.

Edit: I still get that re-acquire file thing when I verify my cache but everything works fine for me so far.

When I reinstalled (HD failing) Steam started downloading the whole 7GB game at 100MB remaining of the 200MB retail patch... :S
Apparently deleting the local files via Steam and re-running the DVD installer may work.

I think everyone gets the 1 file failed thing, be nice to tidy that up at some point.

edit: it's past midnight now...no fallout today. I hope for some action tomorrow though. It better be a whole lot better by then.
Until now I am not that satisfied

It's not good for everyone that's for sure. & Steam is THE reason I haven't got New Vegas.

it's not only steam.. it's a hiddiously buggy game and it's highly recommended to get the patches.. I agree that 7gb is excessive though.. but I had an issue with pre-loading the game where it wanted to redownload it again etc :/ it might be a region thing?

Well, it's working now - twenty hours after I bought the game. I'll remember this the next time it says Steam on the box. That's for sure. NEVER again.

And as for bugs. One of the first NPCs I encountered was a baseball cap dug into the ground!! Turned out his name was Jones (or something). LOL

The game itself is great so far
