Obsidian Entertainment.. Win or Fail?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 8:41 pm

Well in my opinion I disliked it. I would vote for the last and second to last. It's not a bad game I mean c'mon, it's Fallout. I hate how small it is and the bugs, glitches, etc.. I know some people feel the same way and some people are loving it. So you can vote and discuss what you liked or didn't like about the game and if you think Obsidian Entertainment succeeded or failed. But let's list all the great things and bad things this game has brought to the table. Also feel free to disagree or correct me if I'm wrong, these are off the top of my head. Let's begin..

What did Obsidian Entertainment did correctly:

- Brought a ton of new and unique weapons
- Added iron sights
- Had a large variety of factions to join and work for
- A large range of unique and interesting cloths and armor
- Many more companions
- New perks
- Traits
- Setting the game in an awesome setting
- Added just a bunch of new items including aid items like the Sunset Sarsparilla
- Had a good story line
- Good voice acting

What they did incorrectly:

- Bugs and Glitches
- Unable to finish or start quests, large range of problems similar, etc.
- Losing companions for a long period of time with no way of getting them back
- Extremely small map with mountains you can't explore taking up most of the map
- Incorrect geography on some things (even for a video game)
- Typos in conversations
- Graphics are still virtually the same
- A terrible and uncreative list of achievements that are to easy to get
- Not a large variety of traits to choose from
- No Rita's Cafe location (I don't know about you guys but I was pissed)
- Apparent that the game was rushed through in many parts
- Felt like a beta of the game (personally)
- Getting their chemistry wrong in some of the quests which they could have easily looked up
- Able to steal items without trying (you can pick up an item, move to somewhere hidden and steal it without being caught
- The Strip was the most disappointing thing and was way over hyped with 3 casinos you can actually gamble at
- Majority of the locations were all bunched together and made no effort to be a challenge to get to
- Many locations were shacks full of nothing useful or little unimportant things that had nothing to gain and or no meaning

I apologize for getting a little crazy with all their faults.. But like I've said it's just my opinion, and some facts. I honestly dislike this game very much
and I hope Bethesda will make Fallout 4 if or when it's announced and have Obsidian no where near to to touch it.

A few too many bugs for a retail launch imo, but still very much brilliant!
Although those that can't play at all would say otherwise.

I'm Level 24 and I havent encountered any bugs so far... so in my book this game is a WIN.

Obsidian have done a really good job, Being a fan of KOTOR 2, I can see the greys, darks, lights in the overall feel of the game, Its what Fallout 3 should have been.

Other than heavily reuse community mod without their own twist, and invisible walls, NV is awesome.

Doesn't matter what I think. You'll dismiss it as a stupid, uninformed opinion anyway.

Unnecessary fit of rage.

I'm pleased with how New Vegas turned out. Minus the bugs a lot of people are getting. Hope those get fixed soon.

I liekt he gmae so far. I always expect bugs and as long as it isn't the main quest that is bugged, thewy're mostly minor disappointments.

Overall, Obsidian had a large vision when they made the game and I see thme as having succeeded with it for the most part. There's so many good parts about the game that I could bring up - the many factions, the possiblity of choosing a side in the endgame (or going solo), the improved companions system, etc... all in all, it's a game I conaiser my money well-spent on!

Hate all the damned freeze ups. I play on a PS3 and no more than an hour or two and the stupid thing freezes. Almost as bad a FO3 with the game of the year edition. That said, I love the game. The only thing I really don`t like is having to go into very easy mode to take out the super hard to kill Deathclaws.

You forgot to add one option.

This thread FAIL and all threads like this thread FAIL.

I dunno about you, but quite frankly..I'm getting tired of seeing and reading these types of threads. Really. FO3 was buggy and it was fixed. It was one of my favorite games. NV is also shaping up to be another favorite of mine.

I personally think Obsidian and Bethesda did an awesome job with NV. Sure, it has some issues. None that I feel are game breaking. Hell, I've only had one game crash since purchasing this game and one major quest breaking bug that I'm sure I can work around. But this game is no buggier than FO3 was at release time. And just like FO3, given enough ti they will fix this game.

Can we just stop with these threads? Seriously, just stop. Really, we get it. You bought the game, are completely disappointed in a few bugs and glitches and now you hate Obsidian because they had no clue what they were doing despite having created Fallout in the first place.

Man, am i the ONLY guy who has the option of playing 'very easy' or 'very hard' on the PS3? lol...

my opinion is really all over the place on this; i am dissapointed with the map, unlike FO3s huge extremely open map, New Vegas is just a strip of a hundred little locations that are three feet away from each other, dont get me wrong its still really fun to explore and stuff, plus its no just rocks dirt and dead trees, theres actually valleys, rivers, mountains, canyons, and vegetation, but still is a bit to... well, just kind of a strip of locations running north and south.
the story is a big let-down for me, i really dont like the investigation quests, wich is the whole story in New Vegas.

the new weapons and enemies are much better. there are many more weapons and weapon mods make it even better. the characters and new enemies are awesome to, they are more difficult to kill, wich avoiding makes Deathclaws and Radscorpions actually make sense.
hardcoe mode is absolutley awesome, i love it, i adds that extra boost of realism to make the game more fun and challenging.

Pros:
1.hardcoe mode, more diverse and difficult enemies.
2.more diverse map, although more linear than FO3s, its still much less depressing, making climbing up on a cliff and taking in the sights make sense.
3.LOTS of new weapons and weapon mods
4.slightly better graphics, but the rest totally makes up for that(graphics were never really that important to me anyways).

Cons:
1.boring story
2.map is not as open as FO3s
3. spontaneous lag and crashes
4. frequent minor glitches, making my fallout experience much less enjoyable, especially when i kill something and it falls through the ground

I think it's a great game, and my only major complaint is explosive weapons seem worthless, and far too many bugs/performances issues. I'd give it an 8.7 out of 10. 9 if they had ironed out some more of the bufs/performance issues.

im really enjoying the game atm its pretty awesome
some of the things i enjoy are the improved companions crafting iron sights
the bugs are slightly annoying theres only 1 thats really been game breaking for me is the vault near nellis after going in the armory that really pd me off lost 5 hours of gameplay
but other than that havnt really had any problems cept for i fell through the ground in one area only to spawn in the same area.....
anyone had that happen to them.....

Obsidian has made the better Fallout game. I don't care if you say Fallout 3 is better because of exploration, but when it comes down to what makes the Fallout series good, New Vegas blows Fallout 3 out of the water.

Not sure about NV blowing FO3 out of the water - but I know what you mean.

Ive found NV much more challenging than FO3, probably partly because I started NV using my same FO3 strategy (i.e no endurance, all agility\ perception, all explosives), and I've struggled with it, but it's been a good struggle.

Yes the world isn't as big as FO3 but there's just as much going on - you just don't have to walk as far to get to it :) and I think some of the faction stuff is very ambitious (possibly more ambitious than the game engine can take), but overall its less arcade as FO3, much harder and just as satisfying.

Obsidian have done a great job following up an epic as they did with NWN2. NV has plenty of re-playability and will go down as one of the great games.

I loved the game, was completely blown away by it. As far as the negatives you listed, Fallout 3 under the lead of Bethesda also had many of those problems so I don't blame the Obsidian team. The engine has problems and there are glitches with all new games, especially those built on the gamebryo engine that has been unstable since release.

I love - A lot more places to explore
- No stopping at level 10
- The new enemies and the fact they are in packs at time
- the ability to turn off the radios with no one taking a hissy fit. :)

I hate - the bugs; problems with shooting , Victoria gets stuck once to often, the robot has problems with heights, splash were there is no water, the health bar on some enemies fails to display, one display mark in the middle of two build and not at the door
- side missions are not highlighted until complete
- no way to shut off the multiple way points (thus have one way point to case)
- the voices
- lots of places but they are a:) boarded up :( or b:) nothing in them (these is understandable)
- can not sell hulls of ammo for money.
- to many characters look like characters from FO3 (Making an person who looks like Agatha in FO3 as prositute is crass in my opinion)
- to much verbal garbage, is Obsidian trying to make an Eddie Murphy movie or a Grand Theft Auto game
