Ranks

As someone said previously, if you just wants levels/ranks/medals/etc... for just show, then it's fine, but I would be against any additional skill points.

I don't think adding "more" ranks is the solution.

I think there needs to be a separate system tracking XP per session, to give a measure of player skill that's tracked in-game.

The stats site will be nice, but an in-game skill rating system would be cool - letting people know how well they're performing in comparison with others. You could have overall ratings and breakdowns by class.

There needs to be an "I don't care" option. I don't really care how many levels there are as long as the gameplay stays as fun as it is right now.

I agree that skill points should be capped at 20, and be able to rank up beyond that.

Who would vote no? "I don't want more content, content is a bad thing. Give me one gun and I'm good. Screw unlocking things I can't keep up to 20 levels" who would not want more?

I voted no. Its not that I don't want more content, because I do. I just don't think levels need to be they keys to that content. I'd rather see more abilities get added for existing ranks to diversify things a little further.

If you want prestige mode, go play one of those other games.

Yep, I replied to your previous comments a few posts up.

I'm assuming "those other games" you mentioned to be the Call of Duty series. While I'm not a fan of the game play, there is no arguing that they put up consistent big sales numbers year after year. One of the driving forces that keeps people playing is the addictive "prestige mode" where they rank up in correlation to their time spent on the game.

There is virtually no downside to adding in purely aesthetic ranks/levels.

you never have a cap on xp earned, just sayn, thats pretty much the same things as infinite ranks

Once you hit level 5 and you play, you AeErn no more XP unless you try another charector. I don't wish top, I'm happy with mine. At the end of each game I get 30,000 XP then it rolls back to zero :( So more level's would be good, they added them in KILLZONE2 :)

Yep. Here's the situation. I can either redistribute nearly all of my abilities at the loss of one level, or I can create an entirely new character and start back from the beginning. I don't know about anyone else, but I would much rather take the one level hit than revert back to level one with a new character.

character appearance rank unlocks should have been spaced out more. I got to level 20 in a week and while I still enjoy playing I liked having unlockables to look forward to, or at least have your score/xp keep increasing.

Not very much content in Brink so far, looking forward to DLC and still hoping for SDK. SDK would open up a TON of possibilities.

A current system plus a rank system would be ok, it would really only appeal to those whom are slightly obsessive compulsive about their games, which actually applies to quite a few people from my understanding, whom must complete every task possible in order to feel complete. With that said, I am not one of those people. If you don't have shiny loot hanging in front of me.. I will refuse to bite, and simply continue to play oblivious to any other systems in place. I am not sure how the community and the devs would look upon this. As it would be hard to truly poll this topic, as only a very small portion of the community participate actively on the forums.

Before we Jump to Rankings, how about we complete all those achievements-- I know there are big holes in your achievement lists that must be driving you crazy!

So I revoke my vote of "yes" until all achievements have been met! Get back to Work!

With the implementation of new ranks, it would satisfy a certain demographic while not affecting those who see it as "pointless."

Oddly enough, I'm not one of those people that strive to get every achievement in a game. Those that really wanted all of them probably have gotten them by now.

Exactly. This shouldn't be too hard to implement, and it would satisfy those who like leveling. Those that don't see a point to it can simply ignore it and play the game how they like. Everyone is happy.
