Veronica and BoS

Most of this is spoiler-stuff, so if you havn't done the Brotherhood of Steel quests yet, be forewarned:

Spoiler

I recently (and reluctantly) let Boone go back to Novac last night and took Veronica on as a follower. She has quests and special dialogue that I want to unlock, plus I wanted to see what a "big name" actress can do with Fallout dialogue - pretty impressed I must say.

However, in nearing the end of the game and in general taking the NCR-side and BoS-side (you can see where this is going), I hit the point near the end battle in which the Colonel orders me to destroy the BoS and kill everyone inside. This was a horrible moment for me, first time a video game's plot had stumped me to the point of not knowing what I wanted to do about it. I love how complex and rich the faction interactions and quests are in this game, its truely phenominal - and that's what made the next issue so severe for me...

...Veronica helped me wipe out the BoS. :( She did so without any dialogue during OR after the event, though before hand she was playfully chatting with BoS in their fort - a bunch of idle animations of mainly pleasant conversation between Veronica and the BoS, which really fell apart as she massacred the very same people a few moments later. And there she was after the fact, gloves dripping in blood, her same old cheery self - ready to talk about Good times and the Good BoS cause... :(

I had befriended the BoS, got the Elder fired/replaced and was even at the point of joining them when I got the horrible quest form the NCR. So to see what happened I decided to wipe out the BoS, wondering if Veronica would just go back to the 188 and ignore me, attack me or actually help me in the deed. She helped alright, cheering as the blood sprayed from dying BoS as she punched the crap out of them.

This is a big hole to me. She should have reacted VERY differently to such an act, the NCR Colonel did not give any good justification for the action other than "worry about BoS starting trouble", and Veronica admits she likes the NCR overall and that the cause is Good. So this breakdown in the faction relations is a sore spot and I hope they fix it up. If the player takes out the BoS, Veronica should really have nothing to do with the player anymore IMHO.

This break was big enough for me to finishing the main quest, which I wasn't looking forward to anyway. So back into the wasteland I went, to explore and triangle-hunt to try and get that rich wasteland `feeling back. Can't look at Veronica the same way now, I think it's time to send her packing and give Cass a tour.

What a mess!

I have to agree, I took her to see the rubble, to see her response, and see if she would go ape crazy, and she just used the intercom like normal (we never saw each other before I did that quest.)

I think you ran into a bug, because she's *supposed* to attack you if you try to blow up the Brotherhood.

Also, there is a way to get a happy end with the NCR and Brotherhood. It involves not putting a crazy fanatic with terrible hair in charge.

Spoiler

I had heard there was a way to befriend them, but I missed that path on my first journey through the wasteland, and now I find the NCR quest so unacceptable that I'm going to become House and stop the war (assuming that's how it ends). Maybe next play through I'll find that path through.

I agree though this IS a bug, even if it hasn't been ticketed yet for the Dev team to fix - and it definitely needs a fix.

Yeah, the NCR/BoS truce is only open if McNamara is in the big chair.

The Legate's hair is awesome! Or at least his helmet is. If more of Caesar's men wore clothes like that, I'd go legion in a heartbeat. Or at least kill more legion and wear their armor in a parody of everything Caesar stands for.

It works for some people and not others, it seems. Some of my friends talked about how they took Veronica to the bunker and started killing people for the NCR quest, only to have her say "You're going to have to put me on your kill list, because I can't let you do this" and attack. And how one brought her to the bomb-blasted hole in the ground after ditching her and rehiring her (so she wasn't actually there at the battle), only for her to leave saying that his goals and the Brotherhood's weren't compatible.

WOW! Yeah that is definitely not what happened to me, though it sounds like Obsidian did think about this and coded to it. I started with a sneak attack on the chief guard and earned BoS Infamy, etc. I wonder now... I'm going to have to get into the GECK and hunt down that dialogue line, maybe I can fix it myself.

Thanks for the info!

I haven't seen it myself since I'm only on playthrough 2, but that's what I glean from discussions on bringing Veronica to the bunker with ill intentions. I gather it's supposed to be like expecting Boone to get along with the legion.
