Does the latest (11/17) ATI driver update improve performanc

Post » Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:09 am

Hi there guys, generally speaking New Vegas is running tolerably but with slugishness after about 20 minutes or so of play every 2 minutes or so. I haven't really spent time trying to narrow down the cause yet (for all I know, could be overheating, slow HD, or some random codec problem like I had with Oblivion), but I was curious whether the new ATI drivers released on Nov. 17th have any effect on the game. In the changelist on the ATI website, New Vegas isn't mentioned at all, but I was wondering if anyone has had a positive experience.

In another thread, saw someone saying ATI 5xxx series cards were hit bad by the latest patch, but I haven't had serious CTDs or anything. Well, at least things haven't gotten worse. Running an ATI 5650 btw.

Also, generally, we should be copying graphics settings over from FO3 right?

Haven't tried the new release. Version 10.10 was horrible. There's a hotfix for it for Vista and 7 users, not for XP. Surprised the new release doesn't have a fix. I'm on XP, running version 10.9 with very few problems at all. HD 4870 is my card. Don't know what you mean about copying graphics settings, never done it. I adjust as I go.

I saw zero difference going from 10.10e to 10.11. (Including game profiles.)

I did see a noticeable drop in frames in some places post patch but it seems smoother now when it's in the 30+ area than before. I could not tolerate 30-40 FPS before where now it's completely playable. The Strip hit's high 20's when I first enter but once I walk all around the strip I get high 30's to high 40's.

I'm a little confused with the version numbers right now, according to Device Manager my driver version is 8.762, released on Aug 3rd, but according to oldapps.com, there was no ATI driver release corresponding to that date. I don't know how to find which 10.xx version that corresponds to. Gah, I hate that they have two sets of version numbers, one for the whole package and one for the drivers themselves.

So, let me get this straight based on above evidence: 10.9 works just fine, 10.10 had problems, but 10.11 seems to be fine again?

Glad I didn't try them now.

I'm still holding at 10.10c ( hotix ) version.

Games runs 60 fps fully maxed.

No DX fix, no turning down water multisampling etc...no ini nonsense . I can even turn in game AA and AF back on instead of having to force it through CCC.

I do get an annoying freeze every once in awhile...but I believe it has to do with Steams pop up ads. Hate that ! And that micro stutter as textures load is annoying but rare..

Strip, casino , large fights.. anywhere... 60 fps.

19x12, 4 AA, 14 AF, V-sync on, Ultra, HDR etc

17@ 3.4
5970
9 gig ddr 3 1333
120 g SSD

Still kinda stuttery on my end. It did however help alot though. (ATI HD4870 512mb)

New ATI drivers only enables new features on ONLY NEWEST cards, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat %3-5 performance increase for older cards.

Sorry for going a bit off topic here, but is it better to turn AA and AF on in game instead of through CCC?
