There's never been any time that I personally suggested that I was able to deal wityh any part after the first 5% of a DxDiag Report. My visual correction, or my elderly 19" CRT display on the surfing box combine to result in an unreadable soup of words and letters in the unformatted main body. That leave me on the outside looking in, as it were, for 90 % of what's in there, and I'll happily include a form that does cover the basics I always want to see, myself, on forums where the DxDiag isn't the local end-all and be-all.
Be that as it may, it does remain a fact that when Oblivion was new, we learned about the Gamebryo engine's great many incompatibilities with such things as Xfire, and with Nortons AV, and a great long list of things it cannot coexist with. At the time, we learned to perform Clean Boots just as described, and find out what was or was not an acceptable background program / service.
This is the basic outline I acquired somewhere, probably back when NWN1 was still a pup:

. . (please use the numbers, not the word "latest")

The past three weeks, when I see the combination of Windows 7 with most any recent Geforce card, I can't help. My newest is a 9800GT that is out in the game room, and I haven't had it running since last spring. The game box in the bedroom has an HD 4850 in it, and I never play games while that machine is online (I don't like multi-player games much), so I can leave most of the usual background stuff offloaded.
I do have Windows 7, although not Vista. I have never tried to play any game in either Vista or Win 7, so my practical experience with them amounts to no more than hearsay, but nevertheless, a Clean Boot is always the right way to chase down interference.
