Maybe I'm missing something but it's really just greyed out for me. Sorry if this was asked somewhere else among the mess tonight but I haven't seen it by searching.

You get the option after creating your character. Just continue playing and you should get a pop-up or something to that effect.

i played it on xbox so far...you get the option when walking out the door after you finish with the doc i think.

I was being cautious about it 'cause I didn't want to start a game and fnot be able to choose hardcoe but now that I think about it I realize it was said that hardcoe mode could be disabled or enabled at any point in the game. First day jitters I guess lol.
