Thats why we need to know what GPU he has.

A lot of new Laptops are shipping with the best processors, loads of RAM and the fluffy, fancy bells........and a rather crappy Intel Chipset.

I'm getting the exact same problem. My graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 5730...also using a laptop. I can run Fallout 3 just fine btw.

Can't be a DX10 failure... It does not use DX10.
(DX9 coexists)

try turning the graphics down, running in 800x600, changing the LOD etc. They upped the texture resolution in NV, and have much more going on in the way of NPCs.

All the fancy bells... except discrete VRAM (usually)

Hmm. Try right clicking the game in steam and going under properties. Find the Verify option. Perhaps a file got mangled - it can happen (RAM failures happen - you could have gotten unlucky and got a bitflip during copy/decrypt)

Can't even get past the moon on the lowest settings, and 800x600. FalloutNV has stopped working :(.

I'm almost certain my laptop is capable of playing this too...

Your computer should absolutely be capable of running this. I feel a little frightened now, since you got a better graphic card than me...

so, it says "1 files failed to validate and will be re-acquired" then it downloads something, then i run the game and it crashes at the moon again. then i verify again and it says 1 file failed to validate.... and so on and so forth, do i need to restart my computer somewhere in there?

I did this, and it said one file failed to verify. I got my hopes up because I figured that was the problem...anyways it re-downloaded and the same thing happens.

interestingly, if i ask it to verify immediately after it has just verified, it still says 1 file failed to verify and it would be re-downloaded, despite just having downloaded that file.

only problems i've had is i've had to run assassins creed in its dx_9 mode instead of dx_10.and i had to download some newer C++ components, since the computer came with them from 2005.

also, should the validation jump from 50% to 75% to 100% after going percent by percent up to that point?
