Steam-Error Game not avaible

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:20 am

I cant play Fallout New Vegas (again) because steam seems to have an error with my game. I didnt have internet for a week so I thought that was the problem, but the same problem is still there. I start the pc, click on the fallout vegas icon, steam starts up, says its loading the game and then the message comes up:

"Steam- Error
The game is not avaible right now
Please try at another time"

It has been saying this now for a WEEK! whats wrong with steam or the game??? i can play osmos normally so I dont know whats the problem. any ideas?

Make sure you are logged into your account and then try verifying the game files.

There was a patch about two weeks ago, maybe it wants to do the update to that but didn't finish or something.

If all else fails - completely uninstall steam and fallout new vegas and reinstall.

Then once your up and running - have fun discovering the many in game bugs and issues that you paid for ! :twirl:

Have you tried setting Steam to run in off-line mode? I run that way most of the time and go online mainly when there's an update.

Wasn't the Steam cloud disabled in the first patch? Did they re-enable it in the second?

Either way, lack of access to the Cloud should only get a warning, not a prevention from playing the game using local files.

I'm not sure if it was re-enabled, I have it disabled for all games myself. What Steam does is at least partially linked to the planetary allignment it seems.

If you have already validated, might be worth trying: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Cleanly_reinstalling_Steam.

From my understanding both Steam and Beth worked on that issue. They both say it's fixed.

Another avenue to consider is steam tech support. They give you tips on how to solve these common problems.
You can click on your game in the steam library and there should be a support link on the right side.

There's a language tab in the Properties for the game. Right-click the entry in your Steam Library and choose properties, then Language and switch it to German.

I switched mine to French and it immediately started downloading new resources.

When you first switched to German, did you check if it was downloading new materials?

Strange. I assume you weren't in offline mode or anything. I can see it saying the game couldn't be found until it downloaded the German version, but it should have started doing that immediately.

I don't know why the op might have been having problems for such a long time, but I know Steam was having a few issues earlier today.

Earlier I got a message that one of my other games wasn't available, please try again later, so there might be problems with heavy traffic today.

Not everything is automatically piracy people. Accusations like that aren't really a good thing, m'kay?

My posts were apparently too subtle in the sarcastic department to be detected.

You see Talaran, we never had these problems with Bethesda games in the past. Don't get me wrong, I love steam, but there's no reason it has to be intertwined to such an extent for people who bought retail copies. Historically, Bethesda has had thing called common sense that they seemingly used to publish games: They didn't use any draconian DRM that prevented people from playing the game they bought, just CD checks at worst. The reason it's common sense is because the DRM doesn't work, at all, period. With requiring Steam, it's a step in the wrong direction especially when people who bought it can't play it without steam, unless steam gets it's act together and adds "once per computer activiation", which I have no problem with. Therefore, bethesda, through steam, thought the OP was a pirate by not allowing them to play their own game without the DRM validation. The game was there, the files were there, but Bethesda was keeping the OP at the "you dirty pirate" gate until proven innocent.

Perhaps you personally didn't. I had a lot of problems with Fallout 3 and GFWL. Until the work around was posted, I couldn't play. And I waited until they released the dlc on disc due to the amount of hassles and aggravation I had when attempting to get the dlc from GFWL. At no point in time did anyone accuse me of pirating the game because GFWL wouldn't work for me. My steam seems to be activate it once; I play offline and have the game set to not auto-patch. The message I received this morning from Mass Effect 2 was the first time I've ever seen a message from steam. As for Bethesda's other games not using drm; I recall some rather upset posters here when they found out that Shivering Isles used drm; securom and a disc check, iirc.

Considering you flat out stated Bethesda and Steam considered the op a pirate, there wasn't much in the way of subtle. Not just my opinion about that either; we got reports about the post. You can start a topic in Community Discussion regarding drm, although threads about that usually end up with people banned because they can't not bring up piracy, but that was off-topic for this thread.
