ED-E or Rex?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:15 am

So... wondering which non-humanoid companion I'd want to lug around with me through the Mojave. ED-E or Rex. Both have fairly useful perks, with me leaning towards ED-E's for betterness. Whatcha think? Whatcha do? Which ya pick? And why?

ED-E, has his own little quest line and is a Wonderfully silent floating suitcase, by any other name.

Not doing the dog this time (though I have 3 IRL), I can't get into the Robobrain/Dog hybrid thing.

I havent picked up Rex yet, but right now I am finding myself intrigued by ED-E's story. I am not too far into its quest, but I think it will develop into something really cool. Does Rex even have his own story? I am sure he has something, but I am wondering if it will be as involved.

EDE

That way he can carry an umbrella to shade me when it it gets hot.
Put a micro fridge in that bad boy . Nothing like sharing an ice cold Nuka Cola with some errant wastelander...then seeing him get eaten by the local wildlife a minute later. Kodak moment.
I'd be all set to explore the hot ( " but it's a dry heat " ) desolate wastelands of post America then.

With Rex you have to worry about him leaving nuts and bolts everywhere or oiling on the carpet. Stains never come out.
Besides in the end it would be like Ol Yellar and I'd have to put him down for catching techno-rabies or something.

Eye bot for the win..!

I like ED-E, but that's mostly because I've wanted an Eyebot since Fallout 3 (minus the Enclave radio station, but still). Downside is that it seems his electric zap never hits a damn thing.

My understanding is that Rex can be pretty powerful, but I never really had him as a that long companion so I don't know. I just got him a brain from Old Lady Gibson and took him home.

i like rex, cause eddy is more of a weird scrap heap following you than a companion. sides, rex was my first companion ever.

They both are very strong in their own ways.

1. Rex especially with Rey's brain crits like crazy, can knock down any enemy out there, even if it's a scorpion queen. He's also a bit too brave, he's always rushing enemies rather than sticking with you. I found him extremely helpful in combat though. What annoys me is how "long" he is, he often blocks hallways and such standing in them sideways while other companions you typically can run around. Still, he's a very solid companion and a really tough combatant, very inconvenient for enemy with all the knockdowns he does.

2. ED-E can't shoot at all, and even if he hits with his tiny laser, damage is negligible. But with sensors you will always be warned behorehand there's a trap set on you and you get to aim in VATS at Nightkin. So what he fails to do in combat he makes up otherwise. I find his quest far more interesting too, it takes you to a couple of fun places.

In general I stick with ED-E for sensors, but Rex is as viable as ED-E. Your call whom you like better, for me they are well-balanced against each otehr.

I was kinda disappointed in ED-E's new armor (gave him to the BoS). It took away so much personallity from him... the stickers and all. Now, he's just like some standard.... eyebot that was just pumped out from the factory floor. It'd been cooler if that'd just bolted on some armor plating onto him. Not given him a whole new chasis.

Rex is annoying because he always runs off and then i have to chase him so he doesn't go away too far and i lose him. Also I really prefer a real dog above a robot.

I don't know what people are talking about when they say he never hits anything... I always see ED-E killing stuff, headshotting them. only from up close though.

I recommend Rex for melee/unarmed characters, and ede for others, especially sniper. Rex's knock down can be a life saverin a multiple NPC fight. Let the dog annoy one enemy and tie him up for a bit while you take out the rest. So don't assist the enmy he is attacking.

ED-D: EWAC, warning siren, characterful exterior, 210lbs of storage. The only complain is that I can't upgrade its accuracy with its laser nor replace it with a flamer (not in game anyways).

EDE's battle tune is for winners and I much prefer it's perk, but Rex is definitely a better fighter. I find EDE works well with Boone.

I haven't traveled with Rex yet and I love ED-E but I learned he can have problems in closed spaces. When the enemy can reach him, as in a Vault, they can knock him down. He's best in open spaces. Boone too because he's a sniper. I love ED-E's music alerts that enemies are too close and I believe his shots are more powerful after the laser upgrade.

I had Eddie in my first game. He (?) had interesting quest and perk , yay. And flying fridge with trumpets was just convenient. Then after the upgrade his inventory was lost . Then I started exploring vaults, he always get stuck , or just get lost somewhere. Then all of his inventory disappeared for the second time when I left Legion Fort. He pissed me off . Forever.

So Rex for me. He's a good distraction against humans , or 3 cazadors or one deathclaw. I always have to try harder when he's with me, I would never let any dog die. He svcks but I like him.

I like both but because their both great but Rex is just more awesome.

ED-E doesn't have much of a personality. :P
