keys and mouse buttons not responding

I've started having problems with the "v" key not entering me into vats, the "e" key not letting me search bodies, the RMB not zooming the weapon or the LMB firing it and various other dud results. WASD still move me, and the mouse itself still aims. If I try enough times I can usually get a key response, but in combat that is way to late. Before this I had the usual odd crash or slowdown from time to time but a reboot usually fixed it.

I had also played Fallout 3 on this same machine. No major problems (the odd crash excepted) until the patch that introduced the horrible VATS slowdown, this did seem to get fixed when Bethesda finally patched the patch.

You'll probably find this is happening with the Cowboy Repeater, Lever action shotgun, .357 magnum and any other gun that reloads one bullet at a time. It's a bug introduced in the last patch.

You can work around it if you're careful...after you reload you can hit the ironsights key, if it works you're fine, if it doesn't work properly then you have to click the fire button once to reset the keys.

Unfortunately there is no good solution with VATS except making sure you don't queue up attacks past a reload of the weapon. You should exit VATS when you reload and then re-enter it afterward.
