What the heck is up with this? I was looking forward to playing on hardcoe mode to make use of the water/sleeping, etc. Why is it greyed out for me? I assume it's like many other games where you have to first beat the game once then replay it to u nlock that mode?

Also why on earth can you not remap controls to your mouse?

Not sure about the hardcoe mode (though I think your assumption is correct) but you can remap keys for the mouse. You'll notice when you go to the remap keys section there is a menu option on the right hand side (lower corner) that says DEVICE. Click on that and it switches from keyboard mappings to mouse mappings.

Not sure about HC mode (I can't activate it either) but to map tp you mouse you need to click device (lower left) to switch devices to mouse then you can remap.

hardcoe mode can be activated AFTER the Doc patches you up and you leave his house.

i can confirm this, you don't have to beat the game, i just took it for a test drive

you can activate hardcoe mode once you create your character and start to leave the house you start in.
