Does it get any better at higher levels?

My last character was unarmed and I can say that melee is nowhere near as good. I am having problems with mobs that my unarmed killed in 1 or 2 punches. My Melee character is only level 7 with 80 skill but Radscopion and Golden Gecko are tough and I'm having to stim like crazy. Compare that with my last Unarmed character that killed the Queen Radscropion in the hole south of nippon at level 7 without any problems. Only time I died with my unarmed was when the boomers used those rockets and nuked me.

I agree, it is crazy that you get 4 unlockable Unarmed move and 2 game breaking weapon with broken requirement, while Melee have....wait, Chainsaw and Thermic Lance lol.

Get either ASAP, you should be able to find some in Hidden Valley, or Mick n' Raphal's, or Helios One (IIRC).

Thermic Lance, period.

And sell everything you ever find just to get enough caps to repair it often enough to keep it above 75%.

i dunno, with my level 12 character i killed the radscorp queen in searchlight in under 5 seconds with knock-knock

Unarmed does better damage early, but melee has more useful early perks.

Melee does better damage later, but unarmed has better perks/abilities.


Seems pretty balanced. You can use both so you can get slayer and use unarmed early and melee later.

I got 100 mele and i always use my baby, Oh Baby! more than half of the time. Me and Veronica are the dream team. I got Remenants armor with my baby, Oh Baby! and then I have Veronica with Gannon Tesla Armor and her precious Pushy ( the unique displacer armor ) We have the Legendary Cazandor and Legeandary Nightstalker under our belts.

If ur a mele charecter then I highly suggest you getting the Oh Baby! unique super sledge which is located in the Jacobstown cave ( dont worry the Legendary Nightstalker isnt in there ) and getting Veronica which is at the 188 Tradeing post as your companion. Then take her to Ruby Hill Mine to get her Pushy ( the best unarmed weapon ). And voila the dream team is born.

Seconded. I had to start pumping melee since I got Meltdown. Thermic Lance is incredible.

I don't know about unarmed but I definitively enjoy melee quite more than gun : at level 16 no human foes stand against me and my knock knock axe (two swings max to kill) while with firearms I couldn't really handle crowd control when outnumbered. It is true thought that I rely more than before on stimpacks, sasparilla sunset and stuff but it's totally manageable I'd say.

"Pushy" is one of my favourites for melee. 1-2 hit wonder.
