Unarmed

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:06 am

OK, so I am probably reposting an old subject, but I searched and turned up nothing, so here I go.

I wish to make an unarmed/melee style character, no ranged.
Light or no armor only, duh, and sticking to either fist weapons or 1 handed weapons
what would be a good SPECIAL/TRAIT/PERK set up?

Also, what are the special unarmed moves you can learn?

Thanx

First off going with no/low DT armor sure looks cool, but if you are playing on hard/VH ...well you won't get far :)About SPECIAL go with high Str and End and about 6-8Int and u wll be ok.

's ok but no need of medicine i think.I got melee, unarmed and survival. You need both unarmed and melee for some of the cooler perks.

Did you take the Heavy Handed Trait?

Deffinately take the Heavy Handed trait, also make sure you get melee to 45 before lvl 8 so you can get the super slam perk.

The special unarmed moves I know of are the ranger takedown from Andy in Novac, and the Khan melee move from the male Khan drug dealer.

Heavy handed, you won't need that much luck.

I'm doing an unarmed heavy handed monster myself right now, but using explosives to compliment it.

My special is:
ST: 9
P: 4
E: 8
C: 3
I: 4
A: 10
L: 2

I never put 1s in anything, feels cheap and gamey to me, and it isn't really necessary.

Obviously you'll want piercing strike, plus purifier, slayer, maybe stonewall, super slam, possibly toughness, and everyone needs educated.

I started with:
S 6
P 6
E 7
C 4
I 4
A 5
L 8

Any more than 7 Strength is a waste imo if your taking survival. At 100 survival all alchol and several steaks provide +3 str.

For perks the obvious ones I've grabbed so far are Toughnessx2, Stonewall, Superslam, Piercing Strike and Slayer..
Other ones I grabbed which really are not necisary but nice were solar-powered and admantium skeleton.
By no means was my character min/maxed, I grabed a bunch of fluff perks, an intense training for agility and a skill tag to somewhat make up for the low inteligence.

If you want to wear light gear the toughness and stonewall will be a must.

As for learned attacks, I only casually floated through the main story, but I found two, one in Novac from an ex NCR ranger, and another from Ceasars camp.
The NCR one (a backward powerattack that knocked down) worked ok, but was more difficult to land. The Legion one (a forward power attack) was easier to use, but less effective. Might have been due to the mobs I was fighting though.

Scribe counter from Veronica is the best, follow by Legion attack. Ranger tackle is good but it is tricky to hit.

Not sure if you're adament you're going to use Light armour, but I would recommend taking the Power Armour instead and dropping the Light armour idea.

Gear:
1st Recon Beret - +5 Crit, +1 Per
Glasses - +1 Per (through four eyes trait)
T51b Power Armour - +1 Str and some Rad resistance.

Traits:
Heavy Handed (not sure how good it is, not using it personally and im fine on default difficulty)
Four eyes

SPECIAL:
S ~ 7 (+1 implant, +1 IT (perk at level 2), +1 from Armour) = 10 total
P ~ 5 (+1 implant, +2 from gear/traits) = 8 total
E ~ 6 (+ 1 Implant) = 7 total
C ~ 1 (crap stat tbh, even with the companion modifier?) = 1 total
I ~ 10 (for max skill points, personally I cba with getting implant at level 1) = 10 total
A ~ 6 (+1 Implant) = 7 total
L ~ 5 (+1 Implant) = 6 total

You will also be able to buy the other Implant for extra DT.

Perks:
2 - Intense Training (not much option, +1 str ftw)
4 - Educated (extra skill points)
6 - Bloody Mess (more damage \o/)
8 - Super Slam (Make sure you have 45 skill in Melee Weapons for this)
10 - Finesse (+crit \o/)
12 - Piercing Strike (70 skill in Unarmed needed)
14 - Purifier (trust me +50% damage on Deathclaws is win)
16 - Better Criticals (buy luck implant before this)
18 - Paralyzing Palm (extra CC/intertuptions on difficult enemies ftw?)
20 - Ninja (+15% crit!) Need melee and sneak to 80
22 - Grim Reapers Sprint
24 - Slayer (need 90 unarmed and buy agility implant)
26 - Nerves of Steel
28 - Adamantium Skeleton
30 - Unstoppable Force (need 90 melee)

something along those lines would be my suggestion.

You'd do better to use the IT for endurance. (and 6+1=7 btw)
Endurance is better than strength for an unarmed build, Damage and a bigger HP pool. Besides, there are plenty of options to buff strength temporarily, both addictive and non-addictive, but only one addictive endurance buff (buffout).

Yeah I was fidding about with the SPECIAL as I was making the post, due to the requirements needed for the perks, so I forgot to re-adjust the total endurance. My bad.

I'm personally not a fan of using temporary buffs, unless I need to for speech checks etc. (ie. magazines) but you're right, there are plently of ways to increase strength in comparison to endurance.
