Boone made This Machine disappear

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:34 pm

I have given Boone This Machine and a load of .308 ammo, which worked just fine untill I cleared out 2 levels of vault 3. I noticed he was using his melee weapon (which he sometimes chooses to use) and talked to him to change his weapon. Unfortunately he didn't have the rifle anymore, he only had his default 'boone's scoped hunting rifle'. I checked his inventory, but it didn't turn up there either.
So I thoroughly checked the vault and simply couldn't find it. That's when I decided to shoot him in the face for losing the weapon. Upon searching his body I found he was actually carrying it. I reloaded my save thinking that I simply overlooked it when checking his inventory, that it might be to damaged to use or something like that. But after reloading he still doesn't have it, and when I kill him now it doesn't even turn up on his corpse anymore.

Any help to resolve the issue would be very welcome. If all else fails I'll be glad if someone can give me the console-command to spawn the weapon.

Well, spawning the weapon worked, so thanks a lot :-)

This is the complete command, in case anyone else comes across the same problem:

This isn't a bug, it's a side effect of combat. Sometimes, your follower's weapon will get shot out of their hands. If that happens, there's a decent chance they won't pick it back up, especially if there's other weapons handy (such as on nearby enemy corpses).

Yeah I avoid giving followers unique weapons simply because I've seen them shot out of their hands... and bounce down a cliff. Happened to me on the hill near nelson and I could never find the thing again; I even had rex with me so I could look for the green highlight in hopes of finding it.

I'm aware that companions can lose their weapons during combat, but as I wrote in the first post: He was actually carrying it, it just didn't show up in his inventory, only on his dead body. After reloading my savegame it didn't show up on his body anymore.

In Fallout 1&2 your companions could drop their weapon after a critical miss, sometimes it would disappear behind another sprite like your car. If you were really lucky you there was still one pixel sticking out. I guess the devs upgraded the 'pixel-hunt' to 3d standards :P

If it's a bug, then it's difficult to point out exactly and I can't say I'm 100% sure I didn't overlooked something. But being able to spawn the weapon at least provides an acceptable work-around. It does give me a nice idea for a mod though. A dialogue option to ask where his weapon is, and when he can't find it, you can send him to work in the Atomic Wrangler untill he has earned enough to pay you back :P.

I had something like this happen to me. Boone had the Gobi Rifle and then I noticed he was using a knife. I talked to him and looked in his inventory and the Gobi was gone. I knew that Rex had nothing on him, but I decided to check him....and there it was. I could only think that Boone had dropped it and thankfully Rex picked it up.
