OOO and alchemy equipment

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 7:41 am

I feel kind of bad posting this here as an OP but I'm pretty late to the OOO game and can't find any forums dedicated to it anymore.

But I have a simple question: from the wiki and from my own experience playing vanilla Oblivion, journeyman alchemy equipment began to show up in dungeons starting at level 9. Well I'm at level 9 now and not finding any journeyman equipment - plenty of novice and a few apprentice level stuff but not a single journeyman piece. Was this changed in OOO?

Also just discovered my favorite house in Skingrad is now 125,000 gold????? Aaaagh!

Not sure about that but it sounds probable. On the other hand, OOO handplaces Expert and Master gear in dungeons. http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/ooospoilers.html has a list of gear/placement.

EDIT: Yes, checking in TES4Edit, OOO ups the level requirement for finding alchemical apparatuses in loot like this -

[Quality: Vanilla - OOO]

Apprentice: 5 - 9
Journey: 9 - 13
Expert: 13 - 17
Master: 17 - 21

Yup, OOO has much higher prices on player houses.

Note that if using Enhanced Economy, you can choose the house prices, ranging from half of OOO's prices, up to 3 times OOO's prices. I'm playing with 2 times OOO's prices myself - that makes me really feel I've accomplished something when I have enough to buy one.

Thank you so much for checking this for me. I don't have the constructor set installed anymore. Level 13 is fine - I just don't want to tear out my hair anymore trying to find them. I know about OOO spoilers. Most of those Alchemy items you don't get access to until you complete some high level quest, though I did get me the Master Retort yesterday. Not sure if that will make a difference for poisons though which is all I ever use Alchemy for. What I'm really looking for is a better Mortar and Pestle. I guess I'll just have to wait.

Not sure what to think about the exorbitant house prices. The floor of the Skingrad Mage's Guild is littered with all my crap and ingredients. Sometimes I drop things and they fall through the floor. I really need my house to store stuff in. I'm never sure where it's safe to do that in Oblivion. I made the mistake of putting about 100 Cairn Bolete Caps on the table in the basemant and couldn't figure out where they may have went when they all disappeared. Then I remembered that that table "resets" itself with food periodically and my caps are now gone. Live and learn.

Before my chars get their first house I usually put everything in the hollow trunk in the Market district. You can use RefScope or FormID Finder on containers to see if they are safe.

One self imposed rules on my current character is that she never buys alchemy equipment.

And if you're looking specifically for alchemy equipment it can be very frustrating. I've gone through many many dungeons (Conjurer, Necromancer, etc).

But sometimes high level alchemy equipment is available.

And I am using OOO. So it just pays to be patient.

This isn't a criticism of your response but it occurs to me how ridiculous it is that that's the kind of thing we have to do in Oblivion. I hope in Skyrim if you put something into a container or on a table it stays there, for all containers, forever, whether or not other things refresh themselves. Unless the container is destroyed or it's someplace where somebody might steal something from there.

Respawning containers simulates other folks using them. Do you think some guy dropping stuff into a chest the he sees as "his", would leave your stuff in there, when he opened it???

Leveled alchemy equipment is kind of a pet peeve of mine. You go into these necromancer caverns, they have all these higher level necros in there, and they are using apprentice equipment???? Really??????
