My character freezes in VATS, but not the NPCs(enemies)

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2011 6:19 am

About 20% of the time while playing, when I go into VATS to make a kill I am able to see the enemy and select my shots, but when I execute the command my character just sits there, gun in hand, staring at the enemies while they are still in motion, attacking me... sometimes this results in my death, but most of the time i just lose some health for 10 secs or so, until my character 'snaps out of it'.

After my character 'snaps out of it' sometimes he resumes firing at the enemies as he should (although I've lost health in the process), but sometimes he doesn't fire at all, after a 10 or so seconds of sitting there, it just exits out of VATS and all my AP is used up.

I'm lucky if i don't die, and i will surely have to use some of my stimpacks to regain the health that i otherwise would not have lost.
PLEASE SOMEONE PATCH THIS! Thanks

Fallout 3 and Oblivion work fine on my system

Check if this only happens when you have to reload in VATS?

Are you using the Cowboy Repeater by any chance ? Or any single shell at a time reload weapon ?
I quit using the Repeater because of that.
Can't fire..can't exit VATS...just stand there and die.

That DOES happen more with the cowboy repeater, and especially when I have to reload a weapon in VATS... its like he reloads, then just stops shooting.

- I'll have to check later, to see if it happens with other guns, but I remember it happening alot with the cowboy repeater, I hadn't put that together.

Then it's the same animation bug we're waiting for a patch for.

Queue up your attacks in VATS, but stop before the reload. Reload in real-time, then use the fire button to free your controls and go back into VATS again.

Best you can do for now.

There are two mods for this at the Nexus. One is a new script, but you have to install NVSE (Script Extender;) the other just replaces the animation. Either option corrects the problem. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36317

I personally prefer the simple approach and replaced the animation

I honestly keep forgetting this is the PC issues forum.

I haven't installed either mod, but I rarely use VATS. I'm a bit worried I'll get so used to the workaround that I'll have trouble reverting when it is fixed.

It's a really odd bug. I wonder why they seem to be having difficulty fixing it?

Looked and didn't see a similar post, sorry for reposting an already know issue...

I'm just going to have to wait for them to patch it, it's not so debilitating that i need to go change animation files and whatnot, good idea though.

Thanks for the help!
