So far I have verified the integrity of the game cache twice, and both times it said 1 file has failed to verify and will be DLed. I let it DL, hit play, and it opens up the launcher menu with Play, Options, Data Files, etc.

I hit Play in there, the blue spinning circle comes up, and then it crashes.

Not quite sure why files aren't showing up according to Steam.... I have installed, uninstalled like twice now, and I'm doing it all from the disc.

I've played 8 hours too... why is this problem suddenly happening??

Edit: Third time in a row it has said that 1 file has failed to validate and will be DLed. Third time I have let it do that, then tried to play the game and then it crashed.

I can sympathize on the 1 file not validating. Fortunately, my game runs (not well, but it runs). Steam has repeatedly downloaded 808 bytes, almost every time that validation fails. Validation has never passed, but one time when it failed Steam downloaded one file that was 0 bytes (I don't understand that one).

Wow. This is just beyond stupid. I quit the game for ten minutes, go to start it up, and then it doesn't work. I've uninstalled twice. CLEAN re-install, I want to emphasize that. I've completely removed Steam from my computer, and re-installed it. Literally, the next step is a complete reformat. THAT is just complete BS. Let me play for 8 hours and then refuse to play again, no matter what I do. I have no idea what to do next.

I've played on this engine for years, Oblivion, Morrowind FO3 all with tons of mods. I've tried every solution that has worked in the past years to fix this type of thing. NOTHING is working.

So you completely reinstalled your OS (Just want to make sure I understand you)? The game still crashes and you still can't get that 1 missing file? Incase i'm miss understanding you in any way after uninstalling steam did u delete the steam folder from your directory?

No I haven't yet done a reformat. I was just saying, that is literally the next step here unless someone on the forums has any insight. And I'm not quite sure what you mean by the second part, I uninstalled steam using the add/remove programs in control panel, then ran CCleaner.



Yeah I'm in the middle of my fifth verification. Each time same thing. Each time same crash.

I am having the same exact issue as op is. 5 validates and still nada.

What I mean is even after uninstalling steam, in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam directory can still have files in it. make sure that directory is completely gone.

Yeah CCleaner does that, and I manually combed through every directory that would have anything related to Steam and/or FalloutNV. Like I said, I have had these EXACT problems before with FO3 and Oblivion, and I have tried the usual fixes for them such as deleting the .ini file in MyGames\FalloutNV. Nothing is working. Hell, I just filed a support question on Steam because I am completely stumped here.

Ok here is what I did, and it has seemed to work (At least I have launched the game and gotten to the menu screen twice). I removed the game via steam, then went and deleted the folder in my steam apps folder. Re DLed the game.

It seems to be working now, going to launch again and try starting a game.

I've done that...... twice...

Also, I would like those who read this to keep in mind that I have done NOTHING to alter the game in any way. No mods, no ini tweaks, nothing. This problem was just randomly heaped upon me after taking a little break from gaming.

In hindsight, I shouldn't have even quit the game, just let it run on my PC while I took a break. Wouldn't even be having this problem.........

Forgive my double post, but I think I know what the problem is. The Steam Cloud.

It has saved the bad config that I had from what caused this all to happen, and there is no way to get rid of that. Is there anyway to stop the steam cloud from automatically putting this bad config back into my game?

I'm betting this is the issue.

Run the game in offline mode and see if the issue persists.

And you still wonder why some people don't like the idea of requiring Steam? :shakehead:

When I was defending it earlier I was completely forgetting the Steam Cloud.

Now, I [censored] hate it. It's completely ruined this game, unless I can get steam to reset my Cloud data. The cloud saves config files, and automatically puts them in the game. The config file they have saved is causing me to not even be able to play the game.

If the only way I can play this is in offline mode, I'm completely changing my opinion. This steam cloud is just nonsense.

Welp. Looks like I'm screwed here fellas. Waiting on Steam, or someone to help me. Until then, I can't even play the game. Just awesome.

The only way I can see this getting resolved is if Steam decides to reset the cloud data for FNV. I see this is as a highly unlikely thing to happen, therefore my game is permanently locked out from playing, even in offline mode, effectively rendering my 69.99 game useless, with no way for me to get my money back. :banghead: :swear: :swear:

I had this same problem, reinstalled once and it fixed it, then it wouldn't work again, I fixed it by renaming my new vegas folder in steam, deleting the game from steam, deleting the folder for NV in steam/userdata, and deleting the FalloutNV folder in C/users/name/appdata/local/ (this is hidden). Then I renamed the new vegas folder in steam back to fallout new vegas, and reinstalled through steam.I also disabled Steamcloud support through Steam before loading again.

I don't know if only one of these things fixed it but hopefully it works for you, I know it was damn annoying.
