So I realized last night that my fallout version is still the same as when I installed it on the release date. Steam doesn't think there is any updates, is there anyway for me to get these updates and install them on my own? Like downloading them or getting the file itself through steam?

1.2.0.285 is the current version.

If you are below that, make sure you have it set to auto-update, that you are logged in and in online mode. Try verifying the game cache. Try restarting Steam.

There should be no reason for it not to update, and there is no other way to get an update.

Ugh, I started playing on the PC to avoid all those annoying lag issues on PS3 now i'm stuck with these old bugs. Why do they only do it on steam? anti-piracy measures?

That's probably the primary reason, but I'm sure none of us know the full reasons for the decision.

I'd suspect, ironically, that long-term savings in tech support costs is a big reason as well.

Did you check the version number? You can confirm it with the Properties tab of FalloutNV.exe in Windows Explorer, or just by hovering over it until the info tab pops up.

I'll be able to check when I get home. I can't believe there is no other way to get patches. If this is for piracy reasons they svck, how hard can it be to get some product code off the internet to activate it on steam anyway? dumb

Quite hard, actually. Registration code is tied to the Steam account, so you can't have duplicate codes on different accounts, more than one code on one account, and faked codes (if they were possible) can be easily connected to the user possibly resulting in the obliteration of his Steam account and all his games.

Your current version is also showed in game under options>display.

Ok so i'm gonna uninstall everything then re-install it. How can i make sure my saves will be OK? just pull them out of the My Games folder then replace it after?

I don't think saves are removed anyway, but yes, I'd pull them out of your My Games folder and then also make sure the FalloutNV folder is deleted after removing the local content (uninstalling the game). This should give you a clean slate.

If NV is your only Steam game then you can also Uninstall Steam and delete it's folder as well. Start completely from scratch with a new install of Steam and all.

Just make sure you know all you account details.
