Shunned by NCR after NCRHF firefight

Edit: Can't edit the title, that's NCRCF, obviously.

I sided with the Powder Gangers for the firefight at the NCR Correction Facility, and that brought me from neutral to shunned with the NCR. The NCR Ranger whom they apparently sent after me is already breathing down on my neck, saying I have two days left to improve my standing. I went and did the two quests at the Mojave Outpost, one with a specific reward of improving my standing (tho both had the 'NCR Fame Gained' msg on completion) and yet I still remain at shunned.

Is that supposed to be working as intended? I'd imagine with the huge variety of different reputations (the list you see during tutorial phase with 'mostly bad, some good' etc.) I would've expected at least a little progress towards redeeming myself. Seems kinda silly to be signed a death warrant after killing a few NCR troopers in self-defense.

When "in self-defense" is actually "in defense of murderers" don't act like there's something weird in the behavior.

You sided with their enemies, actively fought their soldiers, and expect easy forgiveness?

It's mostly about choosing your side and sticking with it, not jumping around between the factions at whim.

I was just standing there, and those buggers opened fire! I merely returned the gesture.

Mind you I'm not complaining about the reputation drop per se (I think it's great), just that without a numeric value to follow, I'm not sure whether the NCR quests I did actually changed anything, or is it somehow bugged.

I can understand that. It being easier to read might be nice. Though with its own drawbacks, seeming more gamey.

Make that three quests (helping the NCR ranger to deal with the NCR hostages held by the Legion in Nelson) and still no change in reputation despite the 'Fame Gained' message. And since others are reporting issues with how reputations work in the tech section, I'm guessing this is indeed bugged. Bah. :shakehead:

I've taken all opportunities I've come across to kill NCR Troopers without directly blocking me off potential missions. Between NCRCF, REPCONN and random encounters, this quickly made me 'vilified'. The only quest I did after that was the one in Boulder City with the Great Khans and the NCR hostages. After avoiding conflict, it instantly changed my rep with them to 'Merciful Thug'.

That was on my "last day on earth", as the ranger lady would claim. She never came for me.
