Game started crashing on launch : Fallout: New Vegas

The game used to drop to desktop either just after launch or a minute or so into the game. I've managed to play for 4 hours straight or so, but now it just crashes during the starting credits, before I reach the game menu. Keeping Steam offline doesn't help. Restarting the computer doesn't help. Steam verified the integrity of the games cache. What went wrong?

The game used to drop to desktop either just after launch or a minute or so into the game. I've managed to play for 4 hours straight or so, but now it just crashes during the starting credits, before I reach the game menu. Keeping Steam offline doesn't help. Restarting the computer doesn't help. Steam verified the integrity of the games cache. What went wrong?

My understanding is that FNV crashes for a dizzying number of reasons, which is why we're being asked to post the DXDIAG. "Check the forum and google" is not a very helpful advice under the circumstances

You crash at the beginning, You suffer from an bad cache.
Once you re download it you will realize you now crash at the loading screen after the intro.

Go ahead re-verify the cache right now you'll crash at the loading screen after intro.

Since you have too problems here's the fix to both.
*Remember this gives bad quality for the landscape but you won't crash and your fps goes up alot.*

1) Go on steam and right click on fallout new Vegas and click properties.
2) Click the "Local Files" tab and select "Verify integrity of game cache".
3) After download is complete move to step 2.

STEP2

Download- http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=68581

And place it in your main game for fallout new Vegas.
Mine is- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new Vegas

Congrats you can now play fallout new Vegas!

I've done step 1. It says "1 file vailed to validate and will be reacquired.". Trouble is, I've run the validation thing a couple of times over the last hour or so. It keeps saying that this file "will be reacquired", but it doesn't seem to actually reacquire it. Do I just proceed to step 2?

P.S. Sometimes I'm somewhat jealous of the generation that was born with a computer mouse in their hand.

Okay. I've downloaded it but I'm not sure what to do with it. It's a zip file. Just placing it into the FNV directory makes no difference.

(Yes, I'm THAT technophobic. Sorry 'bout that).

Unzip it and put it in lulz.

I did it. It set the graphics for medium quality. Then it crashed just like before.

Once you do you gotta reinstall fallout new Vegas, Update and redo step 1&2.

It actually didn't ask me if I wanted to check the settings. It just did.

I did a system restore to eliminate the changes. After that, it just worked fine for a couple of minutes; allowed me to help NCR troopers out in wiping out a Legion patrol and sell the Legion recruits' stuff to a pair ot travelling merchants. I quit the game, launched again and it again launched ok.

Hopefully it'll behave now. Fingers crossed.

It was suppose to auto detect them since its forcing it to run an older graphics engine (fallout 3)

Thought you meant you manually changed them t.t.

You won't crash for at-least 8hours on this.

I've got currently 16hours and still not a single crash only thing is I hate the non see though texture of the bushes due to running in d3d9 not d3d10. :cryvaultboy:

If that didn't fit it i'd recommend putting your safes into a folder and re-install fallout new Vegas completely, Update, Add saves and see if it worked.

I have no idea, Never had to reinstall new vegas fallout once I fixed the intro crash for myself.
