I have played Fallout New Vegas quite a bit and only a bit over a week have I experienced odd issue that seems to have begun while playing the game. The game tends to lock up producing green/purple/colourful screen that only way to get out of is to boot computer. It happens always around few minutes after starting a saved game, or even starting up a new game.
After a lot of trial and error, I have come to following conclusion to avoid the issue:
If crash happens, I have to cold boot the computer (take power off from the power supply) so that mother board light goes off. When I boot it up again there is never a second lock up, I can play without the issue happening. But if I shut down the computer and try it again tomorrow I have to do the same procedure again: Load computer once, shut it down, take power off and load it all up again. If I skip this, it will lockup the first time. And it really requires the hard power off boot, otherwise the issue just repeats after a normal boot.
Only thing I can think of doing wrong is that I did a lot of alt-tabbing with Fallout and the game didn't seem to like it (crashed few times), so maybe something somewhere got messed up.
I have reinstalled the game, Clean install to Nvidia drivers, ran Direct update. Nothing has helped so far.
I am a bit clueless what it could be, total lockup does not give much clues.
Before someone says it must be 3d card breaking down, if it was the case, surely it wouldn't be fixable by taking the power on/off and then repeat again next day?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
