Ranger Armor

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:32 am

Hello everyone,

This is my first post so be nice!

Apon reading the forums i've noticed alot of members complaining that they can't get ranger armor without having to kill a ranger, this is untrue it can be done via an unmarked quest i believe, of course correct me if i'm wrong.

See the below.

In camp McCarran? the main NCR base below Vegas, go inside the main building and up the stairs into the door infront, there is a women sitting on a bench to your left who will tell you about her dead husband and getting his body back, follow the quest directions and you will find that her husband is a dead ranger just loot his body of ranger armor.

You probully all know this and i'm stating the obious hah.

Friend, welcome to forums!

Unfortunately most folks complain for different armor not able to get without a kill. Ranger Combat Armor, the one from the cover of the game, with the coat over and nice helmet.

I had to jump through some hoops to get a ge sets but this is how u did it without messing with rep from ncr

first off I'm not sure if the show up and the ranger stations after you get to a high enough lvl or if it was after I did the mission at camp golf or hope where the ncr guy kills himself but anyways after awhile they show up all the time at ranger station delta and bravo

Have some c4 stealth boy and some trail and error

but sneak a c4 block in with pickpocket and if they don't catch you sneak away and kaboom ranger armor without a bad rep but it will be damaged alittle but now Boone and I look like some bad sobs

Wow, I...just...how do communicate in real life? :o

Seriously though, I just used a silenced sniper + AP rounds from about 250 yards out. Didn't lose rep or Karma.

if you can 1 shot the mob generally you suffer no loss of karma or faction

I am melee/unarmed and with my hidden Spiked Knuckles and a stealth boy I 1 shot Benny when he first sees you in the Casino. His body guards did nothing and I got everything I needed. I am sure this will work on a NCR Ranger with that armor on, in fact I may load in and try that myself.

Every time I try the C4 trick I lose rep. I used it from far away and I still lose rep.

That is not the ranger combat armor on the front cover of the game, you have a few options though fallout nexus or the wikki and adding the items manually console, or killing an ncr vet ranger with the combat armor/helm on. Fallout nexus would be the better choice though=)

Also you dont even have to go to camp mccarran for the regular ranger armor you go to novac talk to ranger A in his house, you get a misc/note none trackable quest to check on ranger outpost charlie once you go there and go into the building you will see the radio smashed, bodys on the floor if you go into the room on your left one of the dead rangers has the ranger hat and ranger armor on him.

As for killing a ranger to get it, get yourself some faction armor, a sniper rifle a suppressor and get far far away so far away they are off your radar hub take the shot if they dont see you you should not lose any rep. Killed many a different faction and didnt lose rep because I was so far away. But you will need a good pc to do this since you will have to set the view distance pretty high.

Or you can get a modded no faction of it from nexus if your a pc gamer

I got it without killing. I was walking up on the Quarry to hunt DCs and three rangers were waging battle with them. One had that armor on (and a brush gun) and they all got killed so I was able to snatch it up. I didn't do the quarry until well after Ranger Vets started showing up but you could try fast traveling back and forth and see if it takes place. There is one definite scripted instance you can get it in the main quest. You'll know it when you see it. There's a part where a Ranger Vet gets sniped. If you move fast you can grab his armor.

Thanks, I read somewhere else for this event, been there for the quests, but there weren't any NCRs. Now I am going to try to fast travel couple of times to see if they are going to show.

I sniped one with the Anti Material Rifle outside of Camp Forlorn Hope.

I felt bad.... it didn't feel right having my NCR character murdering one of their vets... but that armor. Who can resist?

I just went into sneak and used the 12.7 smg with a silencer to kill one. I had to reload a few times because if anybody notices you or the ranger gets a shot off everyone will go hostile and the NCR will be pissed.

I actually tried to grab some at this point, but kept getting shot when I charged the stage. So I have pushed 3 rangers to their death at Camp Alpha. One gave me a ranger sequoia too.

Welcome to the forums, and welcome to the fabulous world of Fallout: New Vegas! On topic, as others have pointed out, there are actually two versions of Ranger armor, Ranger Patrol Armor, and Ranger Combat Armor. Ranger Patrol Armor is the armor you see most Rangers wearing if they aren't wearing a cowboy outfit. Ranger Combat Armor, however, is the armor on the front cover of the game, with the trench coat and the cool helmet. As far as we know, the only way to get the latter type of armor is to kill a NCR Veteran Ranger, while the Patrol Armor is a bit easier to get (for instance, after you are liked enough by the NCR that they give you a NCR Emergency Radio, you can radio in for Ranger support and a single Ranger will come and follow you around, just like a companion (but without the companion wheel or dialogue options. All they will say is ''Ranger at the ready!'' While the Ranger will have a large amount of health, all you must do is go about your normal adventuring (or go to a decidedly dangerous place, such as the Quarry), and allow the Ranger to die (while remaining alive yourself). Then simply search the body. However, do not attempt to kill the Ranger yourself (not even by accident, unless it is a sneak attack), or you will loose NCR fame). By the way, I am not sure if the NCR Ranger you call in will change after the questline with the NCR Ambassador on the Strip to a Veteran Ranger, but I have never heard of this being the case.

(And by the way, could you guys stop suggesting people to ''just use the console''? Some of us play games USING a console, and thus, ironically, cannot use the in-game console. Not ALL of us are PC gamers, thank you very much  )

Oh, and by the way, if any of you are trying to get the Ranger Combat Armor without losing NCR reputation, I got it many times (at least 3) by going to a Ranger Camp (such as Ranger Camp Delta or Ranger Camp Alpha), waiting until nighttime (when most of the base personnel would be asleep), taking a silenced sniper rifle (you can get a silenced sniper rifle mod usually either at Gun Runners or Trading Post 188), and shooting a Veteran Ranger in the back of the head using V.A.T.S. while hidden in sneak mode. Alternatively, if you wanted, you could use a stealth boy and attack the Veteran Ranger at any time of the day, and if you get a Sneak Attack Critical and no one sees you kill the Ranger, you will lose no karma or reputation. Enjoy!

By the way, my Gamertag is IKam SolastorI, and if any of you Xbox players have a question about the game, feel free to message me or invite me to a chat! Welcome to Vegas, baby!

I kinda want that NCR salvaged power armor. You don't need PA training to get it either I think, but DT is a little lower than t-45 and t-51. I think you have to kill an NCR officer to get it though.. I like how the BoS helmets resemble their FO1/2 vertions. NCR version is definitely the FO3 one though, but I still want it on my next play through

You don't need to be far out. You just need to be [HIDDEN] and silently one-shot the ranger. You can be two feet behind him with soldiers all over the place. As long as you are [HIDDEN] when you take the shot, you get no damage to NCR rep. Done it countless times. Camp Golf is perfect. Get between the tents and snipe those Rangers as they come around.

As long as you get a one-shot kill with a silenced/suppressed weapon from cover it's easy. You don't need AM. A Silenced Varmint rifle will do the trick though with low Guns skill you might want some AP ammo.

I have actually found some Vet. Ranger Armor I was doing a side quest for this Water Pump you turn on that has rad. contaminating it. At the entrance to the cave I found a dead Vet. in the nasty water in front of the door of the cave. I don't know if it was just luck or what but he almost seemed planted there. The mission was just East of Gun Runners by the broken overpass.

If you mean the cave with the Vault 34 inside, there is no one in front. Probably in your game some lost Ranger died there from the geckos.

Meh, I'd much rather tool around in remnant power armor. Now that suit looks badass.
