Solution to the Update Facegen / Sideways Hats Bug

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:43 pm

I just encountered the "update facegen model availability" bug, and came to the forums to see if there was a quick fix. The working fix that I found is the following:

If it works like in FO3, the technique is as follows:
1) Open your esp in FNVEdit.
2) Browse to the baret you added.
3) Find the field called Male biped model, which should contain a grayed out field called MODD - Facegen Model Flags.
4) In the column corresponding to the esp, rightclick and chose Add... (or something similar).
5) You will be asked if you want to edit the esp. Accept.
6) Press the newly added field which should open a box, where you can choose what type of MODD you need, in this case the head.
7) Save, and you are done.
I'm not sure if this will work in NV, as I don't have NV :)

But, I'm importing a lot of my personal mods from F03 into FNV. I didn't want to go into every single file and edit it; I'm lazy.

So I thought about it for a second, then loaded my .esp (after making a backup) into FNV edit (available on the Nexus), then just selected all of the "dirty" helmet/glasses/misc headwear items that were now in my .esp due to me clicking on the "update facegen model availability" button and deleted them. I then loaded my mod into FNV and it worked as intended. My new hats worked fine, the old hats worked fine, and it took me about 10 seconds to do. So if you're lazy like me, feel free to use that method, and thank ElminsterAU for his wonderful utility. If you don't know how to use FNVedit, learn to. You'll be a better modder for it.

- Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. It just didn't pop up when I was searching for a fix.

- tl;dr version

1. Make your mod with whatever new hats you desire
2. Click on "update facegen model availability"
3. Save your .esp
4. Make a backup of your .esp
5. Load original .esp into FNVedit
6. Notice that there are a lot of records in your .esp that you didn't create.
7. Delete every record in your mod that isn't related to your new headgear (can be done individually or wholesale by selecting all of them at once)
8. Test your mod in game
9. ????
10. Profitsssss
