Why do you FORCE out the update regardless of my Steam setti

Post » Tue Apr 26, 2011 8:51 pm

I have set my Steam update patching to manual, since the last patch took some hours to clue out to get working with mods and searching solutions for those on forums.

Now, as fast as I started Steam client today the wheel's started to spin and update New Vegas? You overruled my wish to take a slower introduction to the "fixes" you made!
Anyone care to explain why this latest patch was so freaking urgent to push out to everyone?

Not for me. I've had very minor problems (3 play throughs) and wouldn't have minded skipping this patch. Sorry, but those who don't have problems aren't posting here, so this forum is only the broken side of the game. :)

I agree that Steam updating it even when set to manual is not ok, but I don't think Bethesda is to blame for that.

Bethesda knew what the arrangement was with Steam, and one item had to be "force patches." For NV, Steam is very intrustive to the point of spammy. It is charting everywhere you go in the game and perhaps out of the game. Don't like it. Whether you have the DVD or downloaded the game, it seems like we are playing Steam, not Fallout New Vegas.

The Steam option to turn off automatic updates for games HAS NEVER WORKED. I even wrote them years ago about why it always updates, even when set not to and got a form-email back with no explanation.

This is my main problem with Steam. Privacy issues. Unfortunately most people nowadays seem not very concerned with privacy.
It is admittedly a little bit better here where I live, but unfortunately Steam is an US company.

Some time ago i filled in a steam-support form, where i asked about this.
The reply goes like this:
[My name], thank you for you massage to the Steam Support Team.
Every time you start steam, Updates will be downloaded automatically, as this [starting steam] counts as a manual Update.
Best regards,
Steam Support Team.

(Heres the original reply, since it was in german:

"[Me]
vielen Dank für Ihre Nachricht an das Steam Support Team.
Wenn Sie Steam neu starten werden die Updates automatisch geladen, da dies als ein manuelles Update angesehen wird.
Beste Grü?e,
Steam Support Team")

Don't want patches? Use off-line mode then. Been like that since the start of Steam.

I guess it's a bug that they couldn't figure out how to fix, so it became a feature :D
