Obsidian and Bethesda no longer care about PC Gamers?

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 4:09 pm

To whom it may concern,

In regards to the PC version, I am extremely upset with how this game has been released. First of all, I live on the East Coast. Meaning I did not get to play the game until 3am. This is due to not being informed it was going to require STEAM and that it wouldn't be available to play until it was released at midnight Pacific Standard Time. Furthermore, I feel this game is being misrepresented with Games for Windows across the box and it doesn't tie into LIVE for LIVE achievements for those of us who enjoy sharing achievements between two systems E.G. the 360 and the PC. I am extremely jaded with how all of this was handled and how it appears that Obsidian and Bethesda don't seem to care about their PC players in the LEAST! Thanks for damn near ruining what WAS one of my most anticipated games and now has almost a bitter feeling everytime I log in. I feel like some sort of apology or SOMETHING is owed to all the PC gamers out there who have been slighted by you.

Well, let me apologize on their behalf for not calling you directly to let you know what was plastered all over the internet for weeks now.

Why do they need to apologize for using Steamworks DRM? It was known that the PC version would be using Steamworks for months before release. Research(which so many Steam haters on this board seem like they don't do) could have saved you some trouble.

Furthermore, GFWL =/= GFW.

It using Steam was well advertised. Pre-release and on the box.

Games for Windows is a certification covering things like how the game installs and saves. It is not Games for Windows Live. The fact that the GFW certification looks like GFWL label is not Obsidian or Bethesda's fault, that's how Microsoft wants it displayed.

It's not Beth or Obi's fault people just ASSUME it's for LIVE when there doesn't say LIVE anywhere on the box. It's a game for the Windows OS so go tell off Microsoft instead. And it's pretty common knowledge that it ties in with Steam. Has been for months.

Edit: Typo

I had been looking. I hadn't checked forums (which I admit is my mistake) However, I feel something like that should have been on the main website for the game. I'd had my game paid off for months now, having seen it was (or appeared to be) a Games for Windows title and to find out on launch day that it's not despite the fact that the packaging says so. Furthermore, they are claiming they love their partnership with Microsoft but apparently that doesn't apply to PC games. So they only love their partnership when it comes to the 360 and if anyone wants to play the game anywhere else well then that's their fault? That's not right...

It is a Games for Windows title. However, it is not a Games for Windows LIVE title.

It's been known for months -nearly half the year- that New Vegas would require Steam.

Furthermore, I feel this game is being misrepresented with Games for Windows across the box and it doesn't tie into LIVE for LIVE achievements for those of us who enjoy sharing achievements between two systems E.G. the 360 and the PC.

Two different things.

Games For Windows means that it's made for Windows.

Games for Windows LIVE (Represented by a LIVE tag on the box) means that it has the LIVE functions.

Again, it's been known for a long, long while that New Vegas would not use LIVE and would use Steam for achievements instead. there has been no misrepresentation. Company of Heroes has Games for Windows on the case, but does not use LIVE (Uses the Relic Online system instead), is THQ guilty of rpresenation too? NO.

Apology for what. I've basically given you reasonable and correct repsonse to your only complaints. Yes, there are problems with the running of the game, but I've not seen a big release that didn't have problems in the first few days.

I'm sorry you are so upset. I am a PC gamer and had very little trouble. I went to Game Stop at midnight, got my game, loaded it up (yes, I had to wait for Steam to load but it did not take that long) and have had few problems.

(The most annoying of which is hitting 'Continue' at game startup and having some random save from long ago loading rather than my most recent save. Scared the bejeebus out of me the first time.)

So far only one crash.

If you have the game for PC, I just don't see the point of fumbling around with 'thumb sticks' if you don't have to, but that's just me.

I'm not even sure what to says in reguards to the OP's rant without getting myself banning LOL. It's been know for months, at least since May when I pre-ordered the game, that it was tied with Steam. And Steam is on PST,... so Midnight PST = 3:00AM EST.

This thread can be closed. I retract my statements, I'm just jaded for misunderstanding.

I was aware that it was going to use Steam, I did not realize it was going to be Steam exclusive. I assumed it was going to be like Dawn of War II where it was using both Steam AND Windows Live.

At least it's saving your saves and just loading the wrong one at continue, where as it's not saving my quicksaves or autosaves but that's apparently a known issue.

Still pissed, but I guess more at myself for not doing more research than I thought I needed to since I figured it would be following Fallout 3 and be a Live title and not just a GFW.

It's only because Microsoft has the expertise and infrastructure when it comes to dealing with consoles. Steam is a PC only venue, they just aren't geared up to deal with consoles. If they were, you can pretty much bet that Bethesda would have gone with Steam with all versions of the game.

it doesn't tie into LIVE for LIVE achievements for those of us who enjoy sharing achievements between two systems E.G. the 360 and the PC.

I'd think that, if they really favored the consoles", it would tie into LIVE (ie., the console online network that they badly-shoehorned onto PCs). Using Steam (a PC-centric online network) seems more of a pro-PC move than a pro-Console move.

(translated - LIVE network is a console thing. Why would PC users care about it?)

----
edit: that said, I'd have preferred if it was a LIVE release.... because it's easier to strip that junk off of your PC and ignore it.

Pretty sure that Microsoft also has the expertise and infrastructure when it comes to PC games as well. I mean considering that they've been a computer company for a LOT longer than a console company. Oh, and have a gaming studio of their own. Just sayin.
