Stream & Internet connection

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 12:54 am

Fallout New Vegas is on it's way to me. But in reading reviews on Amazon.com it seems Stream is needed to at least register/install. Is that correct?

Even more importantly for me, I'm wondering if you need to have an active Internet connection to run the game. If so I may return it, since I don't want to have my gaming computer connected to the internet. I might be willing to connect for a short time to register/install.

And I don't know anything about Stream, but does it require something to be running at all times. Does that impact system performance. I really disliked the GFWL requirements of Fallout 3. I'm wondering if Stream is worse.

To summarize what is required to install the game (Stream? Internet? Email?) and what is required to run it (eg can it be played without the Internet?).

(I've run searches on this in the forums but say nothing. If there is another thread on the subject, please point me to it and this can be locked)

Thank you.

Steam - that r will have thrown off your searches ;)

But no, you need to connect once to activate, but from then on you'll never need to connect again.

Steam (no R ;)) is required when you install the game but you can then set it to "offline" mode and you can disconnect your internet connection. I didn't experience a noticeable performance hit from GFWL but I know a lot of people have said that Steam is better.

This is how you can use the Steam service offline: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555
