Hardcoded swap ammo button

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:03 am

So I'm liking NV so far, quite a bit, but the hardcoded keybind for swap ammo is driving me INSANE. In F3 I used 2 for my pistol hotkey; now I keep accidentally clicking it in the middle of a fight. I can't even disable they keybind, so while I'm being shot in the face I'm merrily swapping to surplus .38 specials.

It irks me that this is a hardcoded keybind. It irks me that I'm short one weapon slot for a button I've reassigned to my mouse anyway. Who else wants this fixed in the next patch?

It irked me a little at first but I was able to roll with it and make the adjustment.

It is irking the crap outta me.

Honestly, how bad of a location is that to not only make a default but to NOT allow it to be remapped!

+9000

Especially when other (more logical) keys exist, and didn't already have a function we'd be used to... like, hmm... 'c'? 'C' as in Change ammo... get it? heh.

Yea. Putting it on '2' like that feels like a console concession. If i rolled my eyes any harder, I'd snap the nerve.

I agree, it's stupid. It's like they were in a meeting and said "Hmm, we'll need to add a new hotkey. How can we make it as annoying as possible to PC users?" "Ooh, I know! We'll put it right in the middle of the bindable item keys but make it so that it's the only key in the game that you can't reassign!" "Brilliant! There's not a single good thing about doing it that way! Ship it!"

This button irks me too. For one, I thought it was a Reload button, not a swap out your ammo for a different type. Second, as you say, let me remap it, and don't use one of my Hotkey slots. I need all of them.

I'll add that anyone who used the hotkeys in FO3 at all probably used 2 for something. You know, since if you're using 1, you're probably switching to some weapon, so your other weapon would be on 2. So pretty much anyone who's played FO3, or almost any FPS or MMO ever, is going to be used to having different weapons on hotkeys 1 and 2. Using 1 and 3 and trying to avoid pressing 2 just feels weird.

I wonder why they didn't use the "9" key instead of sacrificing a hotkey

ever Since Doom 1 I've used "2" for pistols

Yup.

1. Primary Rifle
2. Primary Pistol
3. Primary Sniper Rifle
4. Primary Shotgun
5. Primary Explosive

I used to have the Binocs set to 5, but I have a scope on my current rifle that puts the binocs to shame.
