Sound is fantastic

I'd just like to say the sound is amazing in this game... Adds a great ambiance to the game that wasn't there in F3... the little creeks, whispers around graves. And most of all I think it was a fantastic decision to place the old music from F1/F2 in the game.. When I first left Goodsprings and walked up a hill and that music flowed in I was overjoyed. Something about that original music really makes me feel like I'm playing fallout. Nostalgia does such a number on me.

Indeed, the soundscape is very well put together. I especially love the detail paid to the idea that guns sound different from different places...

You know the guy who composed for Dragon Age did so for this as well?

Sound is good, voices though.... I dunno sound for lack of a better word a bit "amateurish" or hollow. From what I've heard so far i prefer the voices (not dialogue) of FO3 more at this point.

What. What. What. What? Honestly, what? The voice acting in this game is miles ahead of Fallout 3s. Fallout 3 had terrible, terrible voice acting. Your post made as much sense as "New Vegas' story isn't even a scent of a shadow of Fallout 3's."

But I guess it is up to opinion...

I love the sounds of scurrying critters when you're out wandering around. But beware... look all around you before you cross the street.

This game is doing a beautiful job of making me cautious about where I journey. :fallout:

Bethesda... Obsidian... Nicely done. :tops:

Sound is great, however, there is a big problem.
When you activate VATS and then focus on enemies there is a very loud and annoying ping sound when you confirm the targets.
I have tried to adjust the sound settings in the main menu option but there seems to be only one setting for sound effects.
So when you adjust the sound effects in the main game to the right volume, and then activate VATS ... the volume is awful loud in VATS
Beware of the awful ear killing ping you will have to endure when you confirm targets - this will eventually cause me to seek therapy if I have to suffer through this the whole game.

Really?! The voices of FO3 were so dull and wooden, like the actors just read from a script with no context as to the situation or whether they were supposed to be angry or sullen, etc. And if I never have to hear the "old man" voice from FO3 in a million years, it will be too soon.

Now, instead of one or two professional actors doing a couple of characters, nearly the entire voice cast are professional actors. Even the children they hired to do the voices for kids (and they got several!) have film and tv credits and prior experience. Now I don't mean to disparage the actors who did voices in FO3, they weren't bad (except for a few that grated, see above), but it seems obvious that they didn't have proper direction or guidance in the recording studio. The fact that this time all the recording was done in California with a huge pool of acting talent and voice directors available from the Hollywood scene shows.

And the ambient sounds! My God, they make the game. It causes the towns to actually sound alive and populated, and adds so much to every world space. And the reverb effect from nearby cliffs or mountains caused by gunshots is wonderful. I just got through fighting a running gun battle in the middle of a sandstorm and the sound of whipping winds and echoing gunfire were great.

I didn't realize what was missing in FO3 until I played NV. FO3 needed some detailed ambient sounds for different environments, or least much better than the ones they had.

The quality of the sound in this game was one of the first things I noticed. Very good job, sound designer people! They even fixed the radio stutter I get in Fallout 3.

The voice acting is worse than Fallout 3? Are we playing the same game?
