Haven't played for a little while, so when I fired up the game tonight, I needed to update it. Fine. *sigh* Two hours later, it's ready. BUT!!! I get this message when I hit "Play": "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time." Really? Why? Why can't I play my bought-and-paid-for game whenever I damn well want to? What is this all about? I'm about ready to spit, or punch someone, or something!! I haven't been able to play all night. And people PRAISE Steam?! You gotta be kidding me...

Can someone explain this latest travesty to me? And explain why I paid some sixty bucks for the "pleasure" of this aggravation?!

I get that every now and then but retrying right after always works for me.

I've tried for well over an hour, have re-booted twice (just to be sure!) and it still says the same thing. I am beyond frustrated. I'm very angry...

Steam might be running server maintenance or upgrades. Have you tried starting the game directly? I.e. not via Steam

Truthfully, I didn't think you could. So I went right to the DVD and hit Play, but I got the same error(?) message. I don't like to call it an error, as it's not. They just won't let me play "right now". Even if they had said, "Sorry, due to maintenance" etc. I wouldn't be so pissed off. But just to tell me it's unavailable, and for me to "try at another time" really roasts me. What "other time" would they like me to try?

Oh, and just to prevent the "did you do this" questions, I did update the drivers.

Are you trying it in offline mode?

Try uninstalling, reboot, re-install. (the game itself, not Steam). A major hassle I understand, but sometimes a necessary evil of dealing with PC games.

If trying again won't fix it, offline mode should.
