colorful textures

ok, so I have recently had to reset my computer back to factory defaults, and ive noticed, this has slightly improved my gaming experience with new vegas. (as soon as i took the 3 hours or so to download and install lol) Anyway, Ive started a new game, and as I walked down the road, I noticed that along the edges of the road and on the destroyed overpasses that the textures are a little screwy. they're not purple or pink or whatever, they're multicolored. just noisy color. That multicolor texture is a memory error in your videocard. A texture was not loaded correctly into the videocard or the texture was not read correctly by the videocard or the videocard memory is defective.

This is often caused by the videocard being older or not supported by the game. It can also be caused by the videocard just being old. It can be caused by too aggressive overclocking.

This was a common problem in Fallout3 with nVidia 7xxx series cards, particularly 7800 and 7900/7950 cards, that did not quite properly support DX9.

It would help if you posted what videocard you are using.

It would help even more to replace your videocard if that's possible.

I know its not the one that it says it needs, but it ran fine for me before i brought my computer back to factory. its really just annoying. it hasnt hindered gameplay so far.

That's a very marginal video chipset. It uses shared memory and probably just is not reading the textures properly.

Because it's a laptop there's also no good solution except maybe adding more laptop memory or upgrading the memory to a higher speed higher quality memory or a better specification memory.

Also be sure the memory is not overclocked and that the laptop is not overheating.

Usually the bad textures can be fixed by quitting the game and restarting but the problem will return at random. And, no, it won't affect gameplay - it's just very bad looking graphics.

Other that that there's no good fix for the problem.
