FNV Freezes at Outdoor

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 12:55 am

Fallout: New Vegas freezes whenever I go outdoor environment. It happens in less than 3 min, usually less than 1 min. So I'm stuck at Goodspring w/o any progress.

The following is what I went through to install the game and fix the problem.

Bought the game at Steam. About 2 days ago.
Download to install(1st trial): Windows bluescreened at 8x%. Rebooted, resumed download at 8x%. Bluescreened again at 9x%. The file was not recognized by Steam anymore. Removed local files manually.
Download to install(2nd trial): Pre-download process(creating local game cash file) didn't finish properly. Removed and reinstalled Steam client.
Download to install(3rd trial): The game installed properly. FNV set option automatically. Enjoyed a good talk w/ doc, went outside, the game crashed. Had to cold-reboot.
Try to fix: Set option manually, somewhat low. The game crashed. Had to cold-reboot.
Try to fix: REINSTALLED the game. 4th trial of downloading the game. Set option automatically, then manually. Both of the game crashed. Had to cold-reboot once.

I tried Alt-Tab at second trial, I was able to access the desktop w/o any problem and I alt-tabbed back to try playing. After a while(1~2 min?) I went inside a house, came back to outdoor, it crashed again and Alt-Tab didn't work. Had to cold-reboot.
I managed to talk w/ Victor once or twice, and go inside another house. No problem happened when I was talking w/ someone(or something) or at the inside.

Try to fix: Updated my graphic driver to the latest, crashed. Turned off the water option, crashed. Set the graphic option at LOW(it turns off ALL the water-related options), crashed. Downloaded and installed unofficial FNV fix MOD, crashed.

So I'm writing on the forum.
I went through the Bethesda support FAQ.
I checked the game cash integrity at steam client, it gave me a result of 1 file missing. ALL THE TIME. It seems that checking the integrity doesn't fix the problem properly.

Alt-tab works sometime, doesn't work the other time. I can't play more than 10 min anyway. The problem occurs outside, and I can't play w/o going outside, can I?

Thanks Bethesda for gifting me a very merry Holiday this year. I really enjoyed it. And my headache, too.

I'm using
Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3(Korean)
Steam, the latest version
NVidia GeForce 8600 GT, w/ the latest graphic driver.
3GB RAM
Intel Core2 Duo E8400

I think I found a solution. Window mode.
I was able to play 5 min without any problems at all. New record!
If there is any better solution please let me know. Thank you.

Now I can play 10 min before crash. w/ the low option I mean. At least I can play now.
The worst part is, that this game is so freaking fun to play. So please let me know any solution if there is one.
