No internets at home. How I install game?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:12 am

I currently have one (1) copy of Fallout: New Vegas on disc at my home.
I do not have internet access anymore (I have Steam installed).
Is there anyway to install this game in offline mode?

Wry tho? I pay good hard earned monies (took me four months to get $60) for game.
Why punish me for not having internets?

It's not a punishment....it's the way Steam works. It's a form of DRM...to verify the game, you have to log into Steam and it'll do so, then you can play/get the patches. Somewhat sadly, this is current the 'wave' of the future, and yes, if you don't have internet access you're fubar'd. If you have any friends w/the internet you can haul your pc over to their house and verify it from there, then take it back home.

I believe it says somewhere on the box that Steam & an internet connection is required...probably in tiny print tho.

It totally is a form of punishment, whether they call it that or not.
Requiring internet access to install a game from a disc is going backwards in development.

It says so in fairly small print on the back, but never did I ever think, "I need internet to install from a disc."
Because thinking that would be stupid.

You can run the game with Steam in offline mode, but you need to be online to install the game. Since you don't have internet at home perhaps you could bring your computer to a friend's house? I know that's a hassle but it would allow you to connect, install the game, download the patches, and then put it back in offline mode to bring it home.

My gaming PC didn't have an internet connection for about eighteen months and it was a real pain in the butt at times. Luckily it was just a matter of bringing the tower downstairs and hooking it up to my wife's peripherals on the rare occasion I needed it to get online.

Yes but you may be able to take it home and place it in offline mode but when you reboot your computer you need to reverify or if you get a crash you again need to reverify, you need to have an internet connection to run anything steam and yes it svcks, like really svcks.

Yes requires internet connection, but doesnt state that it requires constant internet to reverify, alot of games need internet connection, but to verify your code once and they say the same thing, it should state for user who have never used steam that it requires re verifying to reconnect.

But it doesn't require a constant internet connection. You verify the copy of the game, it links it to your steam account, then that's it. You put it in offline mode and don't need the internet again.
