Hello folks,

I have bought an English version of Fallout:New Vegas!
When I want to install the game, only steam will be installed and after that a download of approx. 5 GB will start.
I accept a patch-file of, lets say, 0,5 GB but not 5 GB. I have bought a DVD with huge content. Is this all waste?

My problem is the speed of my Internet connection. it is very low and it is a volume rate not a real flat rate!
How can I play my game w/o downloading so much?

Can anybody give me a hint?

If you exit Steam, you should be able to install your game straight from the disk without having to download the entire game. You'll still have to download the latest patch, which is probably 250mb.

Edit: Try going to your Library in Steam, right click on Fallout: New Vegas, select "Delete local content", exit Steam, then browse to your disc through Windows Explorer and click on it to install New Vegas.

On my DVD-disk are only two *.exe-files. Both have the steam-icon and will start steam again!
How can i start the game?

As long as you don't have Steam running, when you click on the Fallout NV .exe from the disc, it should pop up a little Steam box but actually install from the disc.

I also found these instructions:

0) Ensure you have an internet connection and Steam installed (there should be a copy on the disc).
1) Open up the Steam client.
2) Click on Library (and "Games" if you don't see your games list)
3) Right click Fallout: New Vegas (or *insert any other Steamworks game you're having problems with*) and click on "Delete local content".
4) Confirm.
5) Insert the first disc into your computer.
6) If a window pop-up prompting you to install the game, click on it and follow the instructions. If not, go to step 7.
7) Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
8) Open Run (Windows key + R)
9) Type this in:

Quote
"*INSERT_WHERE_YOU_INSTALLED_STEAM_HERE" -install E:

inserting where you installed Steam between the quotes and replacing E with the letter of the disc drive in question (use My Computer to check if you're not sure).
10) Press OK. Sign in if required. Steam *should* now start installing the game from the disc. Follow any more instructions.
11) Steam will then proceed to download any patches

Not true with my issue of the game. There is no such a Fallout NV.exe, only steam crap like Setup.exe (with a steam-icon) or SteamService.exe.



This way it seems to work now. So for all who have similar problems note:

First: Install steam, login to your account, register the game, start installing the game.
If steam is so stupid not to look whether a DVD with the game is inserted and then start to download the whole game frrom the server stop the process, delete local content and insert the dvd again.
Now, steam looks at the DVD and recognises that there is a game to install on the DVD.

I'd like to say that I utterly agree with Micha369 - in fact, I'm going to go so far as to say this is the most farcical installation process that I've ever encountered on any platform. It's about time that there were legal standards set up to govern the provision of support and the number of hurdles one must leap to install a legally-purchased game.

*shrug* It's the last Steam game I'll ever be buying after this appalling adventure. I just thank God that I didn't buy Fallout: NV closer to release, with it's abundance of bugs.

*sigh* Remember to take your noses out of the trough long enough to make sure you haven't got a mob of angry people at your back, Valve Corp. All it takes is one successful lawsuit and your company goes bye-bye. Few would mourn the loss, I'd wager.
