TTBOMK, only Sager still sells a few older style (thick, heavy, bulky looking) desktop replacement machines assembled the old way, more like a desktop. Any others that offered upgrades to either the CPU or the GPU were replacing the entire motherboard at the same time. They are welded together (chassis and MB) too permanently to reuse the old one after breaking it back apart. The simplest thing is to buy either a used laptop, or a really cheap one, and not expect anything from it other than plain business-type work. The money otherwise wasted on extra laptop bells and whistles is then usable for your desktop tower.
