Crashed within 10 minutes - Help ?

Evening All,

Seems like there are quite a few issues with New Vegas.

I installed the software and the diabolical Steam client. Steam did its usual updates and patched the game. Ready to run.

Game starts sets the graphics to High Quality and away I go........or not. Got through the doctor bit, walked outside walking to the first house and it freezes for a few seconds. Then it crashes to Windows saying the Video Driver has failed. Checked and updated all my video and sound drivers and all up to date, I use NVidia's own drivers which are current and up to date.

I have played for 5 - 45 Minutes about 5 or 6 times now and crashes. It even froze in game forcing a task manager re-start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Such a shame, I remember Fallout 3 did a similar thing, turned out to be a Codec or something..........any guess?

Now the Tech Bit I have no clue about...........:(

Quick update to this myself.

I have rolled back the drivers to the Asus NVidia drivers and it made it slightly more stable.

I installed K-Lite Audio Codec (as this was the crash issue with Fallout 3 and Oblivion) and is again noticeably more stable.

Alas though it still crashes when it wants to. Just froze now and I had to force a restart of my PC........

Seems sooo many problems with this every day on the forums.....why do they produce a top quality game on the outside but when you scratch the surface its flawed.........:(

Which is interesting as I recently installed NV on a fresh install of Windows, and it hasn't crashed yet....

I also have an NVidia GTX 285 graphics card. Here is what worked for me:

Go to your Nvidia control panel (by right clicking on your desktop and selecting it).
Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' then choose the 'Program Settings' tab.
Click 'Add', then browse to your New Vegas folder (Usually in your Steam\Steamapps\Common\ folder), and add FalloutNV.exe
Scroll down to the 'Power Management Mode' option, and set it to 'Prefer Maximum Performance'.
Click Apply, then Yes.
